Pharmacokinetics of PCBs

Annual Review of Pharmacology and Toxicology, 1984
The pharmacokinetics of PCBs are complicated by numerous factors, not the least of which is the existence of up to 209 different chlorinated biphenyls. Whereas all PCB congeners are highly lipophilic and most are readily absorbed and rapidly distributed to all tissues, PCBs are cleared from tissues at very different rates, and the same congeners may be

Ratios of PCB 138, PCB 163, and PCB 164 in aroclor mixtures

Fresenius' Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 1995
The gas chromatographic separation of PCB 138, PCB 163, and PCB 164 in Aroclor mixtures can be achieved by application of a CP-Select for PCBs stationary phase. In technical PCB mixtures with a degree of chlorination exceeding 40% (Aroclor 1242, 1254, 1260, and 1262) these three hexa-chlorobiphenyls were present.

PCB? and Melanoma

New England Journal of Medicine, 1977
An increased incidence of malignant melanoma was noted among petrochemical workers exposed to PCB. The study is criticized for failure to address the issue of exposure to epoxides and other carcinogenic chemicals. It is emphasized that information on other chemicals to which the group may have been exposed is essential. (HLW)

PCBs Not to Blame

Science, 2000
Jocelyn Kaiser's report on the discussion of low-level dangers of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at the Society of Toxicology annual meeting (News Focus, 21 Apr., p. [424][1]) repeats an incorrect and oversimplified, but persistent, generalization about the 1988 mass mortality of harbor seals ...

PCBs in blood of workers exposed to PCBs and their health status

American Journal of Industrial Medicine, 1984
AbstractFact‐finding surveys of workers occupationally exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the production of silk thread or of paint were carried out. Some of the workers showed higher PCB levels in the plasma than typical Yusho patients. Gas chromatographic patterns of their PCBs were shown to match the pattern of the PCBs to which they had

PCB Levels in Humans in an Area of PCB Transformer Recycling

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2008
PCB levels in environmental, food, and human samples were determined around a highly PCB‐contaminated town (F town), a less contaminated town (P town), and a control town (DXG). There were significant differences in PCB concentrations in the intravenous blood of the mothers and their children living in F, P, and DXG sites. In F town, PCB concentrations
