Scaling With Bias? The Role of Founders' HR Knowledge and Experience in Hiring and Managerial Appointments

open access: yesHuman Resource Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT New ventures are expected to continuously add new jobs and managerial positions to meet the expanding demands of scaling. However, the rapid pace and inherent uncertainty of scaling often lead founders of new ventures to rely on heuristics when making these critical hiring and managerial appointment decisions.

Mode-Field Radius of Photonic Crystal Fibers Expressed by the V-parameter

open access: yes, 2003
We numerically calculate the equivalent mode-field radius of the fundamental mode in a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and show that this is a function of the V-parameter only and not the relative hole size.

Joint Estimation and Bandwidth Selection in Partially Parametric Models

open access: yesJournal of Applied Econometrics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We propose a single‐step approach to estimating a model with both a known nonlinear parametric component and an unknown nonparametric component. We study the large sample behavior of a simultaneous optimization routine that estimates both the parameter vector of the parametric component and the bandwidth vector used to smooth the unknown ...

Comparison of active tuberculosis case finding strategies for immigrants in South Korea: Epidemiology and cost-effectiveness analysis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
BackgroundTuberculosis (TB) is one of the serious infectious diseases in South Korea, with 49 new cases per 100,000 people and 629 multi-drug resistant (MDR) cases reported in 2020. TB is increasing among immigrants in S.

Kripke Logical Relations and PCF

open access: yesInformation and Computation, 1995
\textit{A. Jung} and \textit{J. Tiuryn} [Lect. Notes Comput. Sci. 664, 245-257 (1993; Zbl 0795.03021)] introduced ``Kripke logical relations'' to characterize \(\lambda\)-definability. Here, these relations are used to show that \textit{K. Sieber's} model of PCF [``New steps toward full abstraction for local variables'', in: ACM SIGLPLAN Workshop on ...

PCF theory and Woodin cardinals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We prove the following two results. Theorem A: Let alpha be a limit ordinal. Suppose that 2^{|alpha|}aleph_{|alpha|^+}. Then for all n< omega and for all bounded X subset aleph_{|alpha|^+}, M_n^#(X) exists. Theorem B: Let kappa be a singular cardinal of uncountable cofinality.

Data‐Independent Acquisition Mass Spectrometry in Tumor Classification and Cancer Biomarker Research

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
Abstract Cancer treatment is far from optimal also because current classification systems do not reflect the complex molecular status of the tumor and its phenotype in sufficient detail. To construct molecular tumor classifiers, omics tools provide complex molecular data reflecting many aspects from genotype to phenotype.

A review of recent developments in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs)-based biomedical and chemical sensing applications

open access: yesJournal of Electrical Systems and Information Technology
Chemical and biomedical applications emphasize their performance at terahertz (THz) frequencies. We provide a comparative overview of various PCF sensor configurations, along with their key operational parameters, to elucidate the advantages and ...

Hollow-core photonic crystal fibre for high power laser beam delivery

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering, 2013
We review the use of hollow-core photonic crystal fibre (HC-PCF) for high power laser beam delivery. A comparison of bandgap HC-PCF with Kagome-lattice HC-PCF on the geometry, guidance mechanism, and optical properties shows that the Kagome-type HC-PCF ...

Pcf and abelian groups

open access: yesform, 2013
Abstract. We deal with some pcf (possible cofinality theory) investigations mostly motivated by questions in abelian group theory. We concentrate on applications to test problems but we expect the combinatorics will have reasonably wide applications.
