In this chapter we deal with cascades of parabolic and second-order hyperbolic PDEs. These are example problems. The parabolic-hyperbolic cascade is represented by a heat equation at the input of an antistable wave equation. The hyperbolic-parabolic cascade is represented by a wave equation at the input of an unstable reaction-diffusion equation.

A regional adaptive variational PDE model for computed tomography image reconstruction
Pattern Recognition, 2019Improving CT images by increasing the number of scans, hence increasing the ionizing radiation dose, can increase the probability of inducing cancer in the patient. Using fewer images but improving them by accurate reconstruction is better solution.

One of the aims of Computer Vision in the past thirty years has been to recognize shapes with numerical algorithms. In this chapter, we describe five curve smoothing algorithms, of growing sophistication and invariance. We give a detailed implementation and link these algorithms to the curve evolution PDE's they implement.
