ATP‐Mediated Bidirectional Communication Between Natural and Artificial Cells for Controlled Bioreactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Establishment of bidirectional communication behavior between natural and artificial cells. The first type of communication from natural dendritic cells to artificial polymeric cells was achieved via ATP release after cell lysis. The released ATP was taken up via gated UV‐controlled permeability increase of the polymeric membrane for performing ...

Long-haul WDM transmission of PDM-8PSK and PDM-8QAM with nonlinear DSP

open access: yes, 2012
The performance improvement with digital backpropagation using PDM-8PSK and PDM-8QAM formats was experimentally assessed for 7×112Gbit/s. Transmission reach was extended by ~20% compared to 15% for an equivalent PDM-QPSK system.

Flame retardant mechanism and performance of rigid polyurethane foams modified with a novel phosphorus–nitrogen reactive polyol

open access: yese-Polymers
A novel polyol Poly-PDM was synthesized via polycondensation of Phenyl phosphoryl dichloride (PPDC), Dipropylene glycol (DPG), and N-Methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), and adopted to prepare modified rigid polyurethane foams (RPUF).

Electrically Induced Phase Transition and Synaptic Functionality in MoTe2/Graphene Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An electrically induced reversible 2H ↔ 1T′ phase transition is demonstrated in a vertical Au/Ti/MoTe2/graphene memristor with a laterally contacted graphene electrode. Resistive switching proceeds through a compositionally invariant amorphous/2H ↔ amorphous/1T′ transformation, in which a self‐formed amorphous MoTe2 interfacial region is proposed to ...

Ultrathin Amphipathic Dual‐Polymer Networks: Unlocking Hyper‐Permeable CO2 Capture via Solvent‐Mediated Poly(Ethylene Oxide) Amorphization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrophilic PEO‐copolymers and hydrophobic PDMS are physically integrated via a compatibilizing solvent into an amphipathic dual‐polymer network with versatile interfacial affinity and completely amorphized PEO segments for hyper‐permeable CO2 transport.

Morphological alterations of peridroplet mitochondria in human liver biopsy

open access: yesScientific Reports
Mitochondrial dysfunction and the accumulation of lipid droplets (LD) contribute to the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Mitochondria bound to LD, termed peridroplet mitochondria (PDM), form a subpopulation with distinct functions compared to cytoplasmic ...

Architecture‐Driven Functional Coupling in Vertically Aligned Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vertically aligned nanocomposites define a growth‐engineered architecture in which vertical interfaces, strain fields, defect pathways, and phase connectivity are created simultaneously. This review shows how these architectural features couple ferroic, optical, ionic, electrochemical, and device responses, establishing design rules and open challenges
