Coordination of natural and built infrastructure to better manage extreme events: a hydro-finance modeling framework

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Natural infrastructure offers a promising, soft-path solution to water security challenges; however, the scientific framework for siting and measuring the efficacy of such restoration projects is nascent.

Validation of the Chinese Dimensional Anhedonia Rating Scale in Depressed Patients in Hong Kong

open access: yesPsychological Test Adaptation and Development, 2021
. To better understand and gauge the severity of anhedonia, the Dimensional Anhedonia Rating Scale (DARS) was developed which focuses on assessing the four pleasure domains of anhedonia.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Resonance peak in underdoped cuprates

open access: yes, 2003
The magnetic susceptibility measured in neutron scattering experiments in underdoped YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-y}$ is interpreted based on the self-consistent solution of the t-J model of a Cu-O plane.

Single fibre action potentials in skeletal muscle related to recording distances [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Single muscle fibre action potentials (SFAPs) are considered to be functions of a bioelectrical source and electrical conductivity parameters of the medium.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Platelet‐rich plasma in treatment of scar, atrophy, and sulcus: Short‐ and long‐term results

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, 2023
Objective Platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) is rich in growth factors and is easily obtained from blood samples. Long‐term data after PRP injection into the larynx should be improved.

Peak statistics on COBE maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We perform the stastistics of temperature maxima and minima in COBE-DMR 2-year maps. For power-law spectra the surface distribution of peaks implies an amplitude consistent with more conventional analyses of COBE data (for instance, we get $Q_{{\rm rms ...
