The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Sensitivity of the Earthquake Response of Tall Steel Moment Frame Buildings to Ground Motion Features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The seismic response of two tall steel moment frame buildings and their variants is explored through parametric nonlinear analysis using idealized sawtooth-like ground velocity waveforms, with a characteristic period (T), amplitude (peak ground velocity,

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Monitoring the Dynamic Response of a Buried Polyethylene Pipe to a Blast Wave: An Experimental Study

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Although the use of polyethylene (PE) pipelines has become increasingly widespread in recent years, few studies have addressed their seismic design and ability to withstand blast waves.

Effective Assessment of Blast-Induced Ground Vibration Using an Optimized Random Forest Model Based on a Harris Hawks Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Most mines choose the drilling and blasting method which has the characteristics of being a cheap and efficient method to fragment rock mass, but blast-induced ground vibration damages the surrounding rock mass and structure and is a drawback. To predict,

On the correlation of seismic intensity scales with the peaks of recorded strong ground motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Correlations of the recorded peak acceleration, velocity and displacement, and the Modified Mercalli intensity have been carried out for 57 earthquakes and 187 strong-motion accelerograms recorded in the Western United States.

Oscillations in Arcturus from WIRE photometry

open access: yes, 2003
Observations of the red giant Arcturus (Alpha Boo) obtained with the star tracker on the Wide Field Infrared Explorer (WIRE) satellite during a baseline of 19 successive days in 2000 July-August are analysed.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Near-field vibrations in railway track on soft subgrades for semi high-speed trains

open access: yesTransportation Engineering, 2023
For the development of a high-speed rail network in urbanised areas, ground vibration and associated damage to surrounding structures are major concerns.
