Control of peak sidelobe level in adaptive arrays
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1996Adaptive beamforming techniques are now widely used to reject interference (jammer/clutter) signals in radar, communication, and sonar applications. In adaptive arrays using the sample matrix inversion (SMI) algorithm, inadequate estimation of the covariance matrix results in adaptive antenna patterns with high sidelobes and distorted mainbeams.

Sequence design to minimize the peak sidelobe level
2016 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2016Sequences with low aperiodic autocorrelation sidelobes are well-known to have extensive applications in active sensing and communication systems. In this paper, we consider the sequence design problem of minimizing the lp-norm of the autocorrelation side-lobes, which can then be used to minimize the peak sidelobe level (PSL) criterion.

Binary Sequences With Small Peak Sidelobe Level
IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2012A binary sequence of length n is an n-tuple with elements in {-1,1} and its peak sidelobe level is the largest absolute value of its aperiodic autocorrelations at nonzero shifts. A classical problem is to find binary sequences whose peak sidelobe level is small compared to the length of the sequence.

Efficient construction of polyphase sequences with optimal peak sidelobe level growth
2017 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP), 2017Sequences with good correlation properties form an integral part of many active sensing and communication systems. Although polyphase sequence sets with optimal peak sidelobe level (PSL) growth have been known for years, it has been a long-standing problem to construct polyphase sequences with small PSL growth.

Peak sidelobe level gumbel distribution for arrays of randomly placed antennas
2015 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon), 2015Extreme Value Theory (EVT) is used to analyze the peak sidelobe level distribution for array element positions with arbitrary probability distributions. Computations are discussed in the context of linear antenna arrays using electromagnetic energy. The results also apply to planar arrays of random elements that can be transformed into linear arrays ...

Peak Sidelobe Level Gumbel Distribution of Antenna Arrays With Random Phase Centers
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2019The maximum value of an antenna array’s sidelobe beampattern, or radiation pattern in the power domain, is an important parameter determining its performance. In this paper, when array antenna elements have random phase centers, we approximate the maximum sidelobe value, or peak sidelobe level, as a Gumbel distribution using the extreme value theory ...

Minimum local peak sidelobe level waveform design with correlation and/or spectral constraints
Signal Processing, 2020Abstract The problem of designing waveforms with specified aperiodic/periodic correlation and spectral properties has received much attention because of its wide applicability in sonar, radar, and communications. In particular, a waveform with low peak sidelobe level (PSL) of autocorrelation can improve the detection performance of a weak target ...
