Friction between pearlitic steel surfaces
Abstract Experiments rubbing two pearlitic rail steel surfaces against each other were done using an axial-torsion test rig. After the experiments were completed, the surfaces were observed under stereomicroscope, and the wear debris were examined.

Fatigue limit evaluation considering crack initiation for lamellar pearlitic steel [PDF]
In order to evaluate the fatigue limit of lamellar pearlitic steel used for railroad rails, tensile tests and fatigue tests are performed. Although the fatigue ratio of the lamellar pearlitic steel is lower than that of general steels, the reason for ...

On the formation of vacancies in α-ferrite of a heavily cold-drawn pearlitic steel wire
Cold-drawn pearlitic steel wires are widely used in numerous engineering fields. Combining X-ray line profile analysis and positron annihilation spectroscopy methods, up to 10(-5)-10(-4) vacancies were found in a-ferrite of a cold-drawn pearlitic steel ...

Ultrasonic attenuation in pearlitic steel
Ultrasonics, 2014Expressions for the attenuation coefficients of longitudinal and transverse ultrasonic waves are developed for steel with pearlitic microstructure. This type of lamellar duplex microstructure influences attenuation because of the lamellar spacing. In addition, longitudinal attenuation measurements were conducted using an unfocused transducer with 10 ...

Microstructure and Substructure of Pearlite in Hypoeutectoid Ferritic-Pearlitic Steels
Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 2017The substructure and microstructure of pearlite in hypoeutectoid low-carbon steel 09G2S is studied using high-contrast images in a scanning electron microscope and electron backscattered diffraction. Acorrelation is established between local deviations from “ideality” in the structure of pearlite and the substructure of pearlitic ferrite.

Formation of pearlitic banded structures in ferritic‐pearlitic steels
Steel Research, 1992The conditions for ferrite and pearlite banding in strip and plate made of structural steels were investigated. Factors found to influence the formation of banded structures were the cooling rate during the γ/α‐transformation, the former austenite grain size, and the work‐hardened condition of the former austenite.

Ortho-pearlite in silicon steels
Acta Metallurgica, 1970Abstract A structure called porous cementite, found in steels containing silicon or aluminum, is identified as a special kind of pearlite called ortho-pearlite. It is closely related to divergent pearlite formed in steels with other alloying elements.

Fracture of steels containing pearlite
Metallurgical Transactions, 1972The relative effects of pearlite and spherodite on ductile, cleavage, and fatigue failure are summarized. Neither the cleavage strength nor the fatigue endurance limit appear to depend directly on cementite contentper se. Spherodized steels cleave less readily than ferrite/pearlite steels.
