Cleavage fracture in pearlitic eutectoid steel
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1989The effect of microstructure on flow and fracture properties of fully pearlitic steel has been studied by independently varying the prior austenite grain size and the pearlite interlamellar spacing through appropriate heat treatments. The yield strength is independent of the prior austenite grain size but increases as the interlamellar spacing or the ...

Pearlite morphology in the hypereutectoid steels
Scripta Materialia, 1997Abstract The variation of pearlite morphology with carbon content in hypereutectoid steels was examined analytically. It was shown that the cementite thickness decreases with increasing carbon content if (S/S°) (C°/C). In addition, the significance of these conditions on improving the drawability of the hypereutectoid steels was discussed.

Pulsed high field magnets reinforced with pearlitic steel
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1996The use of internal reinforcement in pulsed field magnets is shown to be most efficient in terms of pulse duration and peak field. However, it requires that the mechanical properties of the reinforcement are matched to those of the conductor. The principles for the use of filaments of pearlitic steel as internal reinforcement are studied as well as the

Electron backscatter diffraction on pearlite structures in steel
Journal of Microscopy, 2006SummaryElectron backscatter diffraction measurements were performed on a set of pearlitic steel samples after different heat treatments. The strengths and limitations of the technique with respect to the pearlite issue are presented. Interpretation of the obtained results confirmed that more than one pearlite colony may exist inside one ferrite nodule ...

Thermomechanical treatments of a 1050 pearlite steel
Metallurgical Transactions A, 1983A study of the microstructures and mechanical properties of thermomechanically treated 1050 steel has been carried out. The materials were first transformed to fine and coarse lamellar pearlite structures. These samples were reduced 75 pct in thickness by cold rolling, then heat treated at 780 °C (up-quenching) or 650 °C (annealing) for different ...

Micromechanical modeling of ferrite-pearlite steels
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2010In developing micromechanical models, boundary conditions and material behavior of each constituent of the aggregate need to be described correctly. Mapping the major factors which realistically influence the aggregate behavior on the micromechanical model is crucial in the development of micro-models.

Properties of pearlite-free steel with niobium
Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 19751. Pearlite-free steel alloyed with niobium has good resistance to brittle fracture — the ductile-brittle transition temperature determined from the work of crack propagationap=2 kg-m/cm2 is −100°. 2. The optimal niobium concentration is about 0.1%.

Wear Resistance of Pearlitic Steel Microstructures
MRS Proceedings, 1994Techniques developed over recent years have progressively refined the interlamellar spacing to produce harder, more wear resistant pearlitic steels. This study aims to explain the mechanisms for the wear performance by observing how the microstructure adapts to the wear loading.

Analysis of Pearlitic Cold Drawn Steel Wire
Materials Science Forum, 2015The effect of microstructure on the mechanical properties of cord steel wires was investigated. Material properties and damage behaviours were identified. Metal cord, for reinforcing articles of an elastomeric material, such as tires, conveyor belts and so on of the single strand type, in particular made up of a plurality of 3, 4 or 6 wires, where in ...
