Pebrine diagnosis using quantitative phase imaging and machine learning
Journal of Biophotonics, 2021AbstractPebrine is the most dreaded infectious disease of the silkworm and has devastated sericulture in Europe during the 18th century. Thereafter, if it is detected, the crop is burned to prevent further dissemination. The conventional microscopic examination of moth's body fluid is erroneous and it exacerbates on Metarhizium anisopliae (MA ...

Pebrine disease is caused by microporidia (Nosema bombycis) and is destructive to sericulture production. A carbendazim-based drug FangWeiLing (FWL) has a significant control effect on the disease, which is a successful example of drug treatment of microsporidia. In this study, the therapeutic effect and critical action time of FWL were investigated by

A new method of pebrine inspection of silkworm egg using multiprimer PCR
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2003Using a mixture of several PCR primers, we evaluated whether multiprimer PCR is practically useful for the early and simultaneous detection of several kinds of microsporidia that cause silkworm pebrine. When genomic DNA extracted from silkworm eggs infected with Nosema bombycis was used as the DNA template, the specific DNA sequences were amplified by ...

The spread of pebrine within a colony of the silkworm, Bombyx mori (Linnaeus)
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1965Abstract The epizootic pattern of pebrine within a colony of the silkworm, Bombyx mori (Linnaeus), was investigated. The rate of infection was high in the first, the second, and the fifth instars, and low in the middle instars. This pattern corresponded to the change in the number of larvae excreting spores of Nosema bombycis Naegeli.

The Eri silkworm of the genus Samia is infected by protozoan disease pebrine caused by microsporidian Nosema species. The disease is transmitted to the next generation either through the eggs or consumption of contaminated leaves and it hinder eri seed production.

Silkworm pebrine and the efficiency of use of various means against it

Vision sensing system for early detection of Pebrine spore in silk moth
2012 Sixth International Conference on Sensing Technology (ICST), 2012An important aspect of silkworm seed production is to ensure Pebrine disease free eggs. For that reason, the egg-laying moths are cut and their tissues are examined under microscope for presence of Pebrine spores in those tissues. If the tissues are found free of infection, then only the corresponding eggs are distributed amongst the villagers pursuing

Research on Automatic Detection Technique for Pebrine Image Based on Computer Vision
Advanced Materials Research, 2010Aiming to achieve the automatic detection and accurate identification of pebrine images, the fuzzy contrast enhancement algorithm was utilized to enhance the contrast of the target image in order to improve the image’s quality; Owing to the color character of light green for the pebrine, the image segmentation technique based on the HSI model can be ...

Pebrine-A Silent Threat to Indian Sericulture
UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGYIndian culture is deeply rooted in sericulture, with different regions having a track record for supporting distinct populations of silkworms. For example, the North-Eastern region of the country is home to a diverse range of Muga (Antheraea assamensis Helfer), Eri (Samia ricini Donovan), and Oak Tasar (Antheraea proyleiJolly) silkworms.

Pebrine Disease of Chinese Silkworm Controlled by Using Atmospheric Cold Plasma Jet
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2013Tussah pebrine disease resulting from Nosema bombycis (NB) spores causes massive production and economic losses in the silk industry in China. This paper reports on highly effective inactivation of NB spores for the control of pebrine disease by using an atmospheric pressure cold plasma jet. Both Giemsa dyeing measurement and tussah breeding experiment
