Cotton has been one of the most important cash crops in Pakistan, but its production is adversely affected by biotic and abiotic stresses. Insect pests such as pink bollworm present a colossal vulnerability to such a financially important commodity. Bt toxins have been widely used to safeguard agricultural plants against notorious insect pests such as ...

A new test for measuring diapause in the pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella Saunders
Life Sciences, 1992An ELISA test was developed to assay for the presence of a protein, pectinophorin, that is expressed only in diapausing last instar larvae of the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella Saunders. Use of the test provides a good estimation of the percent of diapause larvae in populations of pink bollworm in cotton fields in California and Arizona.

A nuclear polyhedrosis virus infective to the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1972Abstract A nuclear polyhedrosis virus isolated from the alfalfa looper, Autographa californica , infected larvae of the pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella . Transmission was confirmed by light and electron microscopy and by feeding polyhedra obtained from pink bollworm cadavers to larvae of the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni .

Photoperiodic responses of certain geographical strains of Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera)
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1967Abstract Strains of Pectinophora gossypiella were collected from El Paso (32°N) and Port Lavaca (28°N), Texas; Virgin Islands (18°N), West Indies; Villa de Cura (10°N), Venezuela; Palmira (3°N), Colombia; and Saenz Pena (27°S), Argentina. These were reared in laboratory cultures and tested with photoperiods having from 10 to 14 hr of light time/day ...

Short-range precopulatory behavior of males of Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae)
Behavioral Biology, 1978The short-range precopulatory behavior of males of Pectinophora gossypiella was examined by direct observation and sequential photography. A pheromone-stimulated male takes flight and moves upwind toward a pheromone-releasing female. He usually lands several centimeters from her and then walks toward her while fluttering his wings and extending his ...

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
Pectinophora gossypiella (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a key pest in many cotton-growing countries of the world. In this study, the complete mitochondrial (mt) genome of the pink bollworm P. gossypiella was determined, which is 15,202 bp in length (GenBank accession number: KM225795) containing 37 typical animal mitochondrial gene and an A + T-rich ...

Fatty acids of diapause and nondiapause pink bollworm larvae, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1976Abstract 1. 1. A comparative examination of lipids in field-reared diapause, laboratory-reared diapause, and laboratory-reared nondiapause pink bollworm larvae showed that in the free fatty acid, triglyceride, and sterol ester fractions each group had its own characteristic distribution of fatty acids. 2. 2.

The activity of pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossyplella (Saunders) was studies by time of sowing experiments and monitoring through pheromone traps for two years. In both the years, the crops sown on August 21st had less infestation than other sowings.

Incidence of diapause in pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saund.)
Zeitschrift für Angewandte Entomologie, 1975AbstractIn Egypt, larvae of the first generation of Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) on cotton, which occur in July, do not go into diapause. In August, the larvae which enter diapause remain resting for a longer period than those which undergo diapause in subsequent months. The emergence of the majority of moths the following season from diapausing

Carryover mechanism of pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders) in Andhra Pradesh
Madras Agricultural Journal, 2000Investigations on the carryover mechanism of pink bollworm from season to season were undertaken during 1998-99 at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Lam, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. The studies revealed that pink bollworm adults were continuously emerging in the local ginning mills from the seed cotton received regularly from different regions of
