Generalized Inverted Pendulum Model for Pedestrian-Induced Lateral Vibration of Footbridge

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics
Since the occurrence of pedestrian-induced large lateral vibration of the London Millennium Bridge in 2000, scholars have realized the complexity of pedestrian-induced lateral vibrations. Despite extensive research spanning over two decades, the underlying mechanisms between pedestrians and footbridges remain incompletely understood.

Energy harvesting from vertical pedestrian-induced vibrations of footbridges

2018
The use of advanced sensing systems can facilitate the remote health and serviceability survey of existing infrastructures. In particular, the large number of footbridges built in many countries can greatly benefit from the implementation of smart technological solutions for data transmission and power management.

Pedestrian Induced Lateral Vibrations with Emphasis on Modal Energy Transfer

Already on the opening day of the Lardal Bridge in 2001 were large lateral vibrations observed. These excessive vibrations were seen as relatively dense and continuous flow of people was crossing the bridge. This type of observation has later been made for several other bridges, old as well as new.

Lateral pedestrian-induced vibrations of footbridges: experimental evaluation of walking forces

2014
The forces a walker exerts to an oscillating floor differ significantly from those exerted to a fixed floor. This is because of a natural and unconscious gait modification, deriving from the necessity of minimizing energy consumption while maintaining balance. Among other factors, these forces depend on the frequency and amplitude of oscillation of the
