Modelling Human-Structure Interaction in Pedestrian Bridges Using a Three-Dimensional Biomechanical Approach

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Pedestrian bridges, which are essential in urban and rural infrastructures, are vulnerable to vibrations induced by pedestrian traffic owing to their low mass, stiffness, and damping.

Fourier Series Approximation of Vertical Walking Force-Time History through Frequentist and Bayesian Inference

open access: yesVibration, 2022
The increased ambition of architects coupled with advancements in structural materials, as well as the rapidly increasing pressure on civil engineering sector to reduce embodied carbon, have resulted in longer spans and more slender pedestrian structures.

Pedestrian load models of footbridges

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
The increase of vibration problems in modern footbridges shows that footbridges should no longer be designed for static loads only. Not only natural frequencies but also damping properties and pedestrian loading determine the dynamic response of ...

Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Evolutionary Computation-Based Active Mass Damper Implementation for Vibration Mitigation in Slender Structures Using a Low-Cost Processor

open access: yesActuators, 2023
This work is devoted to design, implement and validate an active mass damper (AMD) for vibration mitigation in slender structures. The control law, defined by means of genetic algorithm optimization, is deployed on a low-cost processor (NI myRIO-1900 ...
