Pedestrian Traffic Characterization Based on Pedestrian Response

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Pedestrian behavior is studied during normal and emergency evacuation of two groups of students. One group consists of grade nine high school students while the other group includes diploma (college) students. The evacuation time, number of steps, step frequency, and velocity are observed.

Effects of lighting variability on locomotion in posterior cortical atrophy

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions, 2020
Introduction Clinical reports describe patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) exhibiting atypical adaptive walking responses to the visual environment; however, there is limited empirical investigation of such behaviors or factors modulating their ...

3D Agent-Based Model of Pedestrian Movements for Simulating COVID-19 Transmission in University Students

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2021
On the 30 January 2020, the WHO declared a public health emergency of international concern due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Social restrictions with different efficiencies were put in place to avoid transmission.

Pedestrians as floating life - On the reinvention of the pedestrian city

open access: yesEmotion, Space and Society, 2021
Walking with its average speed of 5 km/h was for a very long period the primary mode of moving and engaging with the immediate material environment for humans. However, over the past half-century, the socio-technical systems of automobility as well as other forms of non-human powered mobility have changed the ways in which cities are experienced.

SIMULATION OF PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENTS USING SOCIAL FORCE MODEL [PDF]

open access: yesمجله مدل سازی در مهندسی, 2013
In this study, it is tried to simulate the behavior of pedestrians by using Social Force model, which is one of the presented model in the microscopic simulation.

Isolated and Single Pedestrians and Pedestrian Groups on Sidewalks [PDF]

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2017
Walking freedom can define the quality of an urban area, but this freedom is conditioned by various factors. The research objective is to study pedestrian behavior on sidewalks. Data are collected during on site surveys by means of concealed camcorders.

Taking a Look at Small-Scale Pedestrians and Occluded Pedestrians [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2020
Small-scale pedestrian detection and occluded pedestrian detection are two challenging tasks. However, most state-of-the-art methods merely handle one single task each time, thus giving rise to relatively poor performance when the two tasks, in practice, are required simultaneously.

Pedestrian detection in uncontrolled environments using stereo and biometric information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A method for pedestrian detection from challenging real world outdoor scenes is presented in this paper. This technique is able to extract multiple pedestrians, of varying orientations and appearances, from a scene even when faced with large and multiple

BBN for pedestrians

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2004
The simplest, `standard' model of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (SBBN) assumes three light neutrinos (N_nu = 3) and no significant electron neutrino asymmetry, leaving only one adjustable parameter: the baryon to photon ratio eta. The primordial abundance of any one nuclide can, therefore, be used to measure the baryon abundance and the value derived from ...

Modeling spatially unrestricted pedestrian traffic on footbridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The research into modeling walking-induced dynamic loading and its effects on footbridge structures and people using them has been intensified in the past decade after some high profile vibration serviceability failures.
