Pedestrian Behavior at Signalized Pedestrian Crossings
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2013AbstractThe objective of this research was to define eventual differences in models of pedestrian behavior at signalized pedestrian crossings, with and without countdown displays. The outcomes of this work represent a contribution to the harmonization of positions on the effect of a countdown display on pedestrian behavior.

Single-Pedestrian Detection Aided by Two-Pedestrian Detection
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2015In this paper, we address the challenging problem of detecting pedestrians who appear in groups. A new approach is proposed for single-pedestrian detection aided by two-pedestrian detection. A mixture model of two-pedestrian detectors is designed to capture the unique visual cues which are formed by nearby pedestrians but cannot be captured by single ...

With an increasing world population and with more cost effective transportation, mass gatherings become ever more frequent. The total size of such gatherings is often as large as millions of people. Furthermore, everyday life in cities becomes increasingly crowded with people.

Countdown Pedestrian Signals and Low-Vision Pedestrians
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2015The countdown pedestrian signal (CPS) has been shown to be more intuitively understandable than other signals in the way that it communicates the amount of available crossing time at an intersection. The improved comprehension may result in better levels of service to pedestrians at signalized intersections.

Pedestrian Conflicts, Pedestrian Comfort Levels, and Current Pedestrian Levels of Service
2013The current methodology of analyzing pedestrian levels of service stated in the KHCM (Korean Highway Capacity Manual) excludes pedestrian comfort from its primary measures of effectiveness, resulting in mismatching levels of service calculated with the KHCM and the ones stated by pedestrians on the basis of comfort. This can lead to undesirable designs

Analysis of pedestrians’ behavior at pedestrian crossings
Safety Science, 2001This paper presents a methodology for studying pedestrians' behavior at pedestrian crossings. To help understand the behavior of pedestrians, separate models were developed and estimated for divided and undivided streets. Estimated models include waiting time at the curbside and the number of crossing attempts needed by the pedestrian to make a ...
