Glucocorticoids Impair the Airway Epithelial Barrier via Autophagy‐Associated Apoptosis in Asthma: A Preliminary Study Both In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
Mechanism underlying the negative effects of glucocorticoids on the airway epithelial barrier. Glucocorticoids upregulate autophagy factors and downregulate anti‐autophagy factors. Enhanced autophagy promotes excessive apoptosis and epithelial detachment, impairing airway barrier function.
