Strategic positioning and accelerating regulatory clearance for new ventures

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary How do new ventures strategically position their products to accelerate regulatory clearance? We investigate this question in the medical device industry, where regulatory clearance is a prerequisite for market entry. We examine 239 new firms' 510(k) device clearances by the FDA between 2001 and 2019.

A new concept for implant fixation: bone-to-bone biologic fixation [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Cells & Materials, 2015
Many attempts have been made to reduce complications of bone implant, such as pedicle screw loosening. To address this problem, the authors suggest a new concept of bone-to-bone biologic fixation using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 ...

Is the postoperative pedicle screw position after dorsal instrumentation with or without intraoperative cone beam CT imaging worse in patients with obesity than in normal-weight patients?

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2022
Background Intraoperative cone beam CT (CBCT) imaging in dorsal instrumentation facilitates pedicle screw positioning. However, in patients with obesity, the benefit may be reduced due to artifacts that affect image quality. The purpose of this study was

Comparative Analysis of Three Vertebral Screw Placement Directions in Anterior Thoracolumbar Fracture Surgery: A Finite Element Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1464-1477, May 2025.
This study compares the biomechanical effects of three anterior fixation systems in thoracolumbar surgery—HXTL, NHXTL, and Medtronic's CD Horizon ANTERIOR. Finite element analysis evaluates stress and displacement across vertebral bodies and support structures under varying load conditions. Results indicate the HXTL system minimizes nail–rod stress yet

Factors and Experiences Associated With Unscheduled Hospital Readmission After Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion: A Case–Controlled Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1389-1396, May 2025.
The research utilized a case–control approach to contrast patients experiencing unscheduled readmissions with those undergoing planned readmissions due to staged surgery. Findings indicated a 3.88% rate of unscheduled readmissions, mainly linked to adjacent segment disease, with 3.35% necessitating reoperation.
