An investigation of inbreeding depression and purging in captive pedigreed populations [PDF]
We use regression models to investigate the effects of inbreeding in 119 zoo populations, encompassing 88 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. Meta-analyses show that inbreeding depression for neonatal survival was significant across the 119 populations although the severity of inbreeding depression appears to vary among taxa.

Genome-wide estimates of coancestry, inbreeding and effective population size in the Spanish Holstein population. [PDF]
Estimates of effective population size in the Holstein cattle breed have usually been low despite the large number of animals that constitute this breed.

Genomic selection requires genomic control of inbreeding
Background In the past, pedigree relationships were used to control and monitor inbreeding because genomic relationships among selection candidates were not available until recently.

Inbreeding in Japanese Quail Estimated by Pedigree and Microsatellite Analyses [PDF]
Accurately estimating inbreeding is important because inbreeding reduces fitness and production traits in populations. We analyzed information from pedigrees and from microsatellite markers to estimate inbreeding in a line of Japanese quail derived from a randombred line (QO) and maintained for 17 generations by pedigreed matings of brothers to groups ...

Pedigree error due to extra-pair reproduction substantially biases estimates of inbreeding depression [PDF]
Understanding the evolutionary dynamics of inbreeding and inbreeding depression requires unbiased estimation of inbreeding depression across diverse mating systems.

Purging of inbreeding depression within the Irish Holstein-Friesian population [PDF]
peer-reviewedThe objective of this study was to investigate whether inbreeding depression in milk production or fertility performance has been partially purged due to selection within the Irish Holstein-Friesian population.

Effects of pedigree errors on the efficiency of conservation decisions [PDF]
Conservation schemes often aim at increasing genetic diversity by minimizing kinship, and the best method to achieve this goal, when pedigree data is available, is to apply optimal contributions.

An effective rotational mating scheme for inbreeding reduction in captive populations illustrated by the rare sheep breed [PDF]
Within breeds and other captive populations, the risk of high inbreeding rates and loss of diversity can be high within (small) herds or subpopulations.

Background While the adoption of genomic evaluations in livestock has increased genetic gain rates, its effects on genetic diversity and accumulation of inbreeding have raised concerns in cattle populations.

: Reggiana and Modenese are autochthonous cattle breeds, reared in the North of Italy, that can be mainly distinguished for their standard coat color (Reggiana is red, whereas Modenese is white with some pale gray shades).
