Preparation of aqueous dispersion of thermoplastic sizing agent for carbon fiber by emulsion/solvent evaporation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this work, different sizing agent aqueous dispersions based on polyetherimide (PEI) were elaborated in order to improve the interface between carbon fibers and a thermoplastic matrix (PEEK).

Tailoring the Mechanical and Thermal Properties of PEEK with Hydroxyapatite Addition for Enhanced Orthopedic Performance [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
This study focuses on developing bioactive PEEK composites for orthopedic and dental applications. While PEEK offers excellent strength, biocompatibility, and radiolucency, its biological inertness limits bone integration.

Effects of ambient humidity and sintering temperature on the tribological and antistatic properties of PEEK and CF/PEEK

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2023
Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is one of the representatives of special engineering plastics. Due to the high molding temperature, the molding method of ordinary plastics and cavity abrasives are difficult to meet the requirements.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Enhanced Friction and Wear Behavior of PEEK Composites with Low-Content UHMWPE under Elevated-Temperature Conditions

open access: yesTribology Online
To overcome the high friction and wear limitations of pure polyether ether ketone (PEEK) under elevated-temperature sliding, this study develops novel PEEK composites by incorporating ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE).

Dry Sliding Wear Response of Fly Ash Filled Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone Composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper reports the development and wear performance evaluation of a new class of poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) based composites filled with fly ash, an industrial waste. Fly ash is generated in large amounts from furnaces in coal based thermal power

Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...
