Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Study protocol for a randomized trial examining a peer grief support approach for people grieving drug overdose deaths

open access: yesAddiction Science & Clinical Practice
Background People bereaved by drug overdose experience a “special grief” that includes guilt, shame, and blame for their loved one’s death, which often compounds suffering and interferes with help-seeking.

Quality indicators for acute cardiovascular diseases: a scoping review

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2022
Background Although many quality indicator (QI) sets have been developed for acute cardiovascular diseases, a comprehensive summary is lacking. In this scoping review we aimed to summarize the available evidence on the QI sets for acute cardiovascular ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Towards a Canonical View of Peer Assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Peer Assessment (or Peer Review) is a popular form of reciprocal assessment where students produce feedback, or grades, for each others work. Peer Assessment activities can be extremely varied with participants taking different roles at different stages ...

The impact of peer support work on the mental health of peer support specialists

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mental Health Systems, 2022
Abstract Background Peers support specialists have positive impacts on the mental health of their service users. However, less is known about how their mental health changes as a result of their activities. Methods We followed 10 peer support specialists over their first ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
