A three-dimensional, single-phase, isothermal numerical model of polymer electrolyte fuel cell ~PEFC! was employed to investigate effects of electron transport through the gas diffusion layer ~GDL! for the first time. An electron transport equation was additionally solved in the catalyst and gas diffusion layers, as well as in the current collector. It

Polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) are one of the most interesting alternatives for a pollution-free electrical energy production in many applications where a highly reliable source of electricity is needed. One of the major challenges in the development of PEFCs is to exploit the whole capacity that is inherent to a given membrane electrode ...

Influence of current densities in SOFC and PEFC stacks on a SOFC–PEFC combined system
Journal of Power Sources, 2007Abstract A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC)–polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) combined system was investigated by numerical simulation. Here, the effect of the current densities in the SOFC and the PEFC stacks on the system's performance is evaluated under a constant fuel utilization condition.

Water transport within a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) electrode has been probed. A method to reveal tortuosity within the PEFC electrode is demonstrated. NMR relaxation and diffusion measurements are applied to yield information about molecular local interaction and long range diffusion, respectively, within the electrode sample.

Current density distribution in PEFC
Journal of Power Sources, 2005Abstract The determination of the current distribution in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) is of great practical importance to optimize the process parameter such as the flow field design, the humidification of reaction gases and the utilization of the fuel gas. In this paper, subcells approach is used to measure current density distribution in

Oxide-Supported PEFC Electrocatalysts
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2015Even after the start of the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles from December 2014, further improvement of PEFC electrocatalysts is still desired for the next-generation PEFCs. While the Pt-based electrocatalyst supported on carbon black is the state-of-the-art material, further development using alternative electrocatalyst support materials are ...
