Nicotinic Acid Restriction Enhances the Therapeutic Benefit of NAMPT Inhibition in Small‐Cell Lung Cancer Models

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Dietary NA restriction converts the effect of NAMPT inhibition from cytostatic to cytotoxic in SCLC in vivo. ABSTRACT Small‐cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive malignancy with limited therapeutic options. We previously showed that nicotinic acid riboside (NAR) sustains NAD biosynthesis in vivo and compensates for NAMPT inhibition in SCLC models ...

PEG400 regulates Falcipain 2 activity through an allosteric mechanism

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Falcipain‐2 can potentially be leveraged as a drug target due to its critical role as a haemoglobinase during the intra‐erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium falciparum. Here, we investigate the regulation of the proteolytic and haemoglobinase activity of falcipain‐2 in the presence of polyethylene glycol.

Structural insights into xyloglucan recognition by an ABC transporter from a Gram‐positive, thermophilic bacterium

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Athe_2052 is an ABC transporter substrate‐binding protein that recognizes xyloglucan heptasaccharide (XXXG), a soluble breakdown product of plant xyloglucan. The crystal structure of Athe_2052, together with binding assays and computational modeling, shows how XXXG is recognized by this sugar transporter.

Enhanced exonuclease–Cas9 systems promote multiple nucleotide deletions with higher efficiency and broader targeting scope in plants

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Cas9 preferentially generates small indels. By tethering an exonuclease and a DNA‐binding domain (DBD) to Cas9, the Exo‐DBD‐Cas9 system efficiently promotes multiple nucleotide deletions. These expanded deletions enable effective disruption of miRNA‐mediated regulation and relieve translational repression through targeted editing of 3′ untranslated ...

High‐quality genome of elite peanut cultivar ZH05 reveals subgenome asymmetry, pan‐genome diversity, and breeding insights

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
A high‐quality reference genome for the elite peanut cultivar Zhonghua No. 5 revealed differing evolutionary paths between the two peanut subgenomes. SubA has higher overall gene expression and more open chromatin, whereas SubB has stronger structural organization, higher DNA methylation, and greater adaptive diversity associated with peanut evolution ...

The CaM1‐CBP60b‐MYB77 Transcriptional Cascade Regulates K+ Homeostasis and Salt Tolerance in Barley

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity is a major abiotic stress that threatens global crop productivity. Calcium (Ca2+) is a pivotal second messenger in plant stress signalling, but how Ca2+ sensors such as calmodulin (CaM) transcriptionally control ion homeostasis and salt tolerance remains largely understood in crops.

Effect of hydric stress induced by PEG 6000 on water content of Musa spp. ‘Grande naine’ (AAA) and ‘Pelipita’ (ABB) in vitro plants

open access: yesBiotecnología Vegetal, 2015
Bananas and bananas are grown in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, by hence they are adapted to good humidity conditions. The productivity of these crops is affected by abiotic factors such as drought, which has increased in recent years

A TAF10‐ERF109 Transcriptional Module Directs Flavonoid‐Based Stress Resilience and Yield Enhancement in Foxtail Millet and Wheat

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To ensure sustainable agricultural production under escalating environmental constraints such as drought and salinity, innovative strategies are urgently needed. Here, we reveal in foxtail millet (Setaria italica) that transcription factors TAF10 and ERF109 form a functional complex which co‐activates the expression of key flavonoid ...

Insights Into the Origin and Local Adaptation Evolution of the Cultivated Sesame With Telomere‐to‐Telomere High‐Quality Genome

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sesame (Sesamum indicum L., 2n = 26) is one of the oldest oilseed crops and is often called the ‘queen of oilseeds’ due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids and natural antioxidants. Despite its long history, the origin and global spread of cultivated sesame remain unresolved.
