The significance of cortisol on acclimation to salinity in pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis Importância do cortisol na aclimatação a salinidade em peixe-rei Odontesthes bonariensis [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2007
The role of cortisol on the osmoregulation of pejerrey Odontesthes bonariensis at different salinities was investigated in adult fish injected with 0.7mg hydrocortisone per 100g body weight of fish, and transferred to 0, 5 and 20ppt of NaCl.

Dietary phosphorus requirement of pejerrey fingerlings (Odontesthes bonariensis) [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2014
To determine the available phosphorus requirement of pejerrey fish, four semi-purified diets were formulated to contain increasing available phosphorus levels (0.90, 2.7, 5.7 and 8.3 g/kg).

Pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) Under Siege: Main Infectious Diseases and Their Role in Aquaculture and Wild Populations Amidst Environmental Change. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Dis
ABSTRACT The pejerrey (Odontesthes bonariensis) is a key species for recreational and commercial fisheries in Argentina and holds significant aquaculture potential. It has been introduced to various countries worldwide, including Japan, where intensive aquaculture has developed.

Diets of Three Sympatric Grebe Species in Lake Titicaca Indicate Possible Dietary Niche Partitioning. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Lake Titicaca is home to three grebe species whose diets have not been thoroughly studied. In this natural history note, we provide the first description of the diets of these species and how they overlap and differentiate. ABSTRACT Dietary niche partitioning is a fundamental process in community ecology, of interest to both conservationists and ...

Pleomorphic Adenoma-Like Tumor in the Kidney: Case Report of a Rare Mixed Tumor. [PDF]

open access: yesCase Rep Nephrol
Background Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common salivary gland tumor and is notably able to metastasize while displaying a benign‐appearing morphological appearance, greatly resembling that of the primary tumor. Case Report Here, we report a case of a 66‐year‐old male who presented with a 7‐month history of a left upper renal mass.

Transgenerational Heat Exposure Triggers Unexpected Compensatory Sex Ratio Responses in a Temperature-Sensitive Fish Under Climate Warming. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
Rising temperatures can unbalance the number of males and females in species whose sex is influenced by the environment. In a decade‐long experiment with European sea bass, we found that heat during development produces more males, but the thermal history of parents—especially fathers—can unexpectedly push offspring sex ratios back in the opposite ...

Evidence of Alternative Splicing as a Regulatory Mechanism for Kissr2 in Pejerrey Fish. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Endocrinol (Lausanne), 2018
Kisspeptin receptors are G-Protein-Coupled Receptors that regulate GnRH synthesis and release in vertebrates. Here, we report the gene structure of two kisspeptin receptors (kissr2 and kissr3) in pejerrey fish. Genomic analysis exposed a gene structure with 5 exons and 4 introns for kissr2 and 6 exons and 5 introns for kissr3.

Molecular parallelism in the evolution of a master sex‐determining role for the anti‐Mullerian hormone receptor 2 gene (amhr2) in Midas cichlids

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 6, Page 1398-1410, March 2023., 2023
Abstract The evolution of sex chromosomes and their differentiation from autosomes is a major event during genome evolution that happened many times in several lineages. The repeated evolution and lability of sex‐determination mechanisms in fishes makes this a well‐suited system to test for general patterns in evolution.

Reproductive sterility in aquaculture: A review of induction methods and an emerging approach with application to Pacific Northwest finfish species

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 15, Issue 1, Page 220-241, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Aquaculture is the fastest‐growing food‐production sector and is striving to become a long‐term sustainable approach to meet the rising global demand for seafood. During the expansion and advancement of aquaculture, minimizing ecological impacts should occur concomitantly with maximizing production. Farmed fish, often genetically distinct from

Influence of Dietary Phosphorus on the Growth, Feed Utilization, Proximate Composition, Intestinal Enzymes, and Oxidation Resistance of Sea Cucumber Apostichopus japonicus

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Six experimental diets (crude protein 12.58%, crude fat 1.93%, and total energy 10.72 kJ/kg) containing 0.24%, 0.37%, 0.51%, 0.62%, 0.77%, and 0.89% phosphorus were formulated to evaluate dietary phosphorus requirement for sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus. The feeding trial was conducted in 18 fiberglass tanks (220 L) for 63 days.
