Fungal Antagonism Assessment of Predatory Species and Producers Metabolites and Their Effectiveness on Haemonchus contortus Infective Larvae

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
The objective of this study was to assess antagonism of nematophagous fungi and species producers metabolites and their effectiveness on Haemonchus contortus infective larvae (L3). Assay A assesses the synergistic, additive, or antagonistic effect on the production of spores of fungal isolates of the species Duddingtonia flagrans, Clonostachys rosea ...

The Relationship between Selenium and T3 in Selenium Supplemented and Nonsupplemented Ewes and Their Lambs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Twenty pregnant ewes were selected and classified into two groups. The first group received subcutaneous selenium supplementation (0.1 mg of sodium selenite/kg BW) at the 8th and 5th weeks before birth and 1st week after birth while the other was control group without selenium injection.

Immune Responses Associated with Resistance to Haemonchosis in Sheep

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
This paper examines the known immunological and genetic factors associated with sheep resistance to infection by Haemonchus contortus. Such resistance is an inheritable genetic trait (h2, 0.22–0.63) associated with certain sheep breeds. Resistant sheep do not completely reject the disease; they only harbor fewer parasites than susceptible sheep and ...

Effects of Summer Heat Stress on Physiological Parameters and Reproductive Efficiency of Barbarine Ewes Under Natural Outdoor or Indoor Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 7, Page 686-697, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change and rising ambient temperatures increasingly challenge sheep production systems in arid and semi‐arid regions, particularly during the summer breeding season. This study evaluated the effects of heat stress and direct solar exposure on physiological responses, metabolic profile, and reproductive performance of Barbarine ewes, a ...

First Report of Anthelmintic Resistance in Gastrointestinal Nematodes of Sheep from Costa Rica

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
As the prevalence and severity of anthelmintic resistance continue to rise, nematode infections in sheep correspondingly reduce the profitability of the sheep industry. In Costa Rica, sheep production systems are increasing in both number and importance.

Factors associated with the reproductive performance of ewes inseminated laparoscopically in England and Wales: A longitudinal study

open access: yesVeterinary Record, Volume 199, Issue 1, Page e21-e29, 4/11 July 2026.
Abstract Background Laparoscopic intrauterine artificial insemination (Lap‐AI) is used in sheep genetic improvement programmes. However, the lambing rate (LR) (i.e., the proportion of inseminated ewes that lamb) following Lap‐AI is variable. Previously, one small UK study investigated factors associated with LR, but it did not adjust for dependencies ...

Effect of Diet Neutral Detergent Fibre Content on Dry Matter Intake, Nutrient Digestibility, Growth Efficiency and Carcass Characteristics of Finishing South African Mutton Merino Wether Lambs

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Feeding South African Mutton Merino lambs low‐NDF lucerne hay diets improved nutrient digestibility, energy utilisation, growth efficiency, and carcass quality. Despite lower intake at the lowest NDF level, fibre digestibility and feed conversion improved, indicating that highly digestible, low‐NDF finishing diets enhance lamb growth and carcass traits.

Relationship between body weight and scrotal circumference in growing Pelibuey sheep raised under tropical conditions

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2023
The body weight (BW) of an animal is a vital economic trait that might help in decision-making in the handling of animals. The objective of the present study was to develop equations for the prediction of BW in Pelibuey sheep using scrotal circumference (
