Functional differences between herbs and woody species in a semiarid Mediterranean plant community: A whole‐plant perspective on growth, nutrient‐use and size

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 38-50, January 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Despite decades of research, a comprehensive understanding of trait coordination at the whole‐plant level remains elusive. Furthermore, while the link between above‐ground growth rates and leaf traits related to nutrient use is well established, much less is known about

Classification and Characterization of Anthropogenic Plant Communities in the Northwestern Iberian Peninsula

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 28, Issue 1, January/March 2025.
In the northwestern Iberian Peninsula, the diversity of anthropogenic vegetation is organized along axes of abiotic stress (dry‐sunny to moist‐shady) and disturbance. Anthropogenic habitats host one third of the Iberian Atlantic plant species pool and one fifth of the Iberian flora, and may represent a biodiversity asset in urban landscapes.

Functional redundancy in carrion decomposition by temperate forest ant communities

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 949-964, December 2024.
Avian carrion decomposition was significantly faster when ants and other invertebrates were not excluded in Mediterranean holm oak dehesas. Proneness of ant species to forage on carrion was related to behavioural traits, being higher among species foraging collectively.
