Size-composition of Annual Landings in the White Shrimp, Litopenaeus setiferus, Fishery of the Northern Gulf of Mexico, 1960–2006: Its Trend and Relationships with Other Fishery-dependent Variable [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The potential for growth overfishing in the white shrimp, Litopenaeus setiferus, fishery of the northern Gulf of Mexico appears to have been of limited concern to Federal or state shrimp management entities, following the cataclysmic drop in white shrimp

Seismic Disturbance, Productivity and Depth Shape Hadal Benthic Habitats and Biodiversity in the Japan, Ryukyu and Izu‐Ogasawara Trenches (Northwest Pacific Ocean)

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim This study characterises benthic habitats and associated biodiversity in three Japanese subduction trenches, and explores the effects of trench‐specific differences in large‐scale seismic events, disturbance and productivity regimes on habitat structure and assemblage composition.

Simulated and Actual Effects of the Brown Shrimp, Penaeus aztecus, Closure in Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Simulations based on a yield-per-recruit model were performed to analyze the impact ofg rowth overfishing on brown shrimp, Penaeus aztecus, and to assess the effects of a closed season inshore and offshore of the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Veracruz.

Current Status and Production Trends of Commercially Cultured Mariculture Species Along the Kenyan Coast: Challenges, Opportunities and Future Prospects

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Mariculture holds significant promise for enhancing food security, blue economy development and climate‐resilient livelihoods along Kenya's 640 km coastline. This review synthesises over two decades of empirical and grey literature to examine the current status, production trends, challenges and future prospects of commercially cultured ...

Unveiling Origin Pitfalls in Metagenomic Surveillance for Emerging Infectious Diseases: Parvoviruses as a Model

open access: yesiMetaMed, Volume 1, Issue 1, September 2025.
A diverse reagent‐associated virome, including parvoviruses, misleads zoonotic surveillance. By leveraging large language models (ChatGPT‐4o), we construct a virus discovery data framework (PVDDC) and ParvoDB to access and correct host misattributions, thereby enhancing the accuracy of metagenomic surveillance for emerging zoonotic diseases.

Postlarval ecology of the blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) and brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus californiensis) in the Colorado River Estuary.

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2006
The study describes habitat use by penaeid shrimp larvae that enter the Colorado River Delta. A location was chosen in the Santa Clara Channel in the core zone of the Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta Biosphere Reserve, where collections

Navigating Nitrofuran Challenges in Farmed Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii): Strengthening Safety and Export Potentials in Bangladesh

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 4, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Nitrofuran metabolites, including semicarbazide, pose significant risks to food safety, particularly in the aquatic industry. Bangladesh's shrimp industry faced major challenges due to nitrofuran contamination, leading to a voluntary export suspension to the European Union (EU).

Fisheries Management: The Kuwaiti Experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Siddeek et al. (1991) discussed very briefly some recent developments in Kuwait's shrimp fishery, including an important increase in landings of the main commercial species, Penaeus semisulcatus.

No single PCR test is sufficient to determine parvovirus IHHNV presence in or impact on farmed shrimp production

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 56, Issue 4, August 2025.
Abstract The main purpose of this report is to provide hard evidence that the shrimp parvovirus, infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV), has not resulted “in significant consequences, for example, production losses, morbidity or mortality at a zone or country level” in Thailand since at least 2010. It also reveals that no single
