Use of Clotrimazole in Finfish Aquaculture: Mechanistic Insights, Limitations, and Future Directions for Antifungal Therapy

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This review critically evaluates clotrimazole as a potential antifungal for finfish aquaculture, highlighting strong mechanistic and in vitro efficacy against aquatic mycoses alongside major gaps in in vivo evidence, toxicokinetics, residue safety, and environmental risk, outlining priorities for responsible therapeutic development and regulatory ...

PRESENCE OF FUNGAL CONTAMINATION IN THE PRODUCTION CHAIN OF FRESH FILLED PASTA, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE PENICILLIUM GENUS

open access: yesItalian Journal of Food Safety, 2011
A shelf-life study was carried out on fresh filled pasta in order to evaluate the presence of fungal contamination in the production process (environment, raw materials and finished products), with particular regard to the Penicillium genus.

Fungal Antimicrobial Resistance: Mechanisms, Drivers, and Global Clinical Burden

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fungal antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern for world health caused by an increase in multidrug‐resistant infections, an increase in environmental reservoirs, and the ineffectiveness of current antifungal treatments. Fungal infections continue to be largely excluded from AMR initiatives while causing over 1.6 million deaths ...

Total Synthesis of Sacrolide A and Cytotoxic Evaluation

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Isolated from the edible cyanobacterium Aphanothece sacrum, sacrolide A is a highly potent antimicrobial and cytotoxic metabolite. Its total synthesis via a convergent strategy enabled accurate assessment of its effects on liver and colon cells, offering new insights into its bioactivity and potential health risks.

Inhibition of Penicillia and Aspergilli by Potassium Sorbate

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 1984
Cultures of molds from the genera Penicillium (25 isolates) and Aspergillus (18 isolates) were inoculated onto YM agar fortified with different concentrations of potassium sorbate to determine their abilities to grow in the presence of this compound. Molds were incubated for up to 30 d at 25 or 4°C.

Pulsed Light Technology in Food Safety and Preservation: Principles, Applications, and Future Directions

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Pulsed light technology uses short high‐intensity broad‐spectrum flashes (200–1100 nm) to inactivate microbes via DNA damage. It preserves food quality, extends shelf life, and works on liquids, meats, and produce, often combined with other hurdles for enhanced efficacy.

STUDIES ON THE CLASSIFICATION OF THE PENICILLIA

open access: yesThe Journal of General and Applied Microbiology, 1956
Since 1949 the author has received about 3500 samples sent from Universities and Laboratories in Japan. They were collected of soils of different places and of other materials (fruits, vegetables, corn, flowers, leaves, refuse, decaying matter, etc.).About 10, 000 strains were isolated from the samples, and these about 3000 strains were selected on the

Aloe vera in Food Preservation: Harnessing Bioactive Constituents for Clean‐Label Innovation and Safety Assurance

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Aloe vera‐derived biopolymers and nanoformulations enhance antimicrobial, antioxidant, and barrier functions in clean‐label edible coatings and films, whereas safety‐critical anthraquinone thresholds and regulatory constraints shape their translational potential.

An immunofluorescent counting method for tremorgenic penicillia [PDF]

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, 1981
Abstract Antibodies produced against tremorgenic strains of Penicillium crustosum and Penicillium janczewskii , conjugated indirectly with fluorescein, were used to stain mycelium of pure cultures of moulds and also hyphae present in ...
