This is an infographic driver of food contaminants and health effects. ABSTRACT Food safety remains a critical challenge in Nigeria due to rapid urbanization and weak regulatory enforcement. This systematic review synthesizes empirical evidence from 2015 to 2025 to characterize food contaminant profiles and associated human health risks in Nigeria ...

Host‐specific and deterministic microbiome assembly in major coleopteran stored‐grain pests
Dual DNA‐ and RNA‐based sequencing profiled the microbiomes of five major coleopteran stored‐grain pests and their wheat flour substrate. The microbiomes differed significantly among hosts and from flour, yet 11 core bacterial and 9 core fungal taxa were shared across hosts. RNA data revealed host‐specific active microbiota.

AraR plays a more dominant role than XlnR in plant biomass conversion in Penicillium subrubescens
Penicillium subrubescens is a promising candidate for industrial applications as its plant cell wall-degrading enzyme production levels and saccharification abilities are similar to that of the well-established industrial species Aspergillus niger ...

Binuclear Copper‐Dependent Oxidative Enzymes Involved in Fungal Natural Product Modifications
This article summarizes recent biochemical characterizations of a new enzyme family named by the authors as binuclear copper‐dependent oxidative enzymes (BiNCOs). Found in fungal natural product biosynthesis, BiNCOs catalyze diverse CH functionalization reactions, including C(sp3)H halogenation, C(sp3)H hydroxylation, C(sp3)O macrocyclization, and ...

Abstract BACKGROUND Penicillium mycotoxins, including ochratoxin A (OTA), citrinin (CIT), and cyclopiazonic acid (CPZ), frequently co‐occur in food commodities, contributing to chronic low‐level dietary exposure. However, current risk assessments often consider these toxins individually, overlooking potential interaction effects.

Aspects microbiologiques de la production par fermentation solide des endo-beta-1,4-xylanases de moisissures : le cas de Penicillium canescens [PDF]
Microbial aspects of endo-β-1,4-xylanase production in solid-state fermentation by Penicillia: the case of Penicillium canescens. Production of xylanases by Penicillium canescens 10-10c is the research object in Walloon Center of Industrial Biology ...

Abstract Mycotoxins remain a persistent threat to the safety and quality of cereal grains and other agricultural products, and their impact on human health continues to raise global concerns. In many situations, the practices traditionally used to control these toxins are no longer sufficiently effective. They can be costly, difficult to implement on a

ABSTRACT Soil degradation compromises ecosystem functioning. Biochar, a carbon‐rich amendment, has gained attention as a promising strategy to enhance soil structure and restore microbial balance. This study investigated the effects of two biochars, cashew bagasse biochar (CBB) and a co‐pyrolyzed biochar produced from sewage sludge and cashew pruning ...

ABSTRACT Coastal soil salinization from rising seawater levels has adverse impacts on soil function, seed germination, and plant growth. Root exudates play a key role in supporting microbial activity, nutrient cycling, and plant health, yet little is known about the combined effects of salinization and the addition of artificial root exudates (AREs) on
