Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Penile Abscess Secondary to Neglected Penile Fracture after Intracavernosal Vasoactive Drug Injection

open access: yesThe World Journal of Men's Health, 2012
Penile abscesses are rare, but can develop after trauma, injection therapy, or surgery of the penis, or as an unusual presentation of sexually transmitted diseases.

A Vascularized Microphysiological System Reproducing Endochondral Ossification in Vitro to Study Ewing Sarcoma Proliferation and Migration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biofabricated 3D in vitro model recapitulating endochondral ossification (ECO) is described, mimicking the steps from condensation to chondrogenesis and hypertrophy, culminating with vascularization of the hypertrophic construct. As a model proof of concept application, Ewing Sarcoma cells are seeded in the model, showing modifications in their ...

Penile Crohn's disease: a case report. [PDF]

open access: yesSexually Transmitted Infections, 1995
Metastatic Crohn's disease is a rare inflammatory condition characterised by cutaneous granulomatous lesions separated from the affected bowel by normal intact skin. Involvement of the genitalia in Crohn's disease is rare and consists of ulcerated lesions in almost all of the cases reported in the literature. We describe a case of penile involvement in

A Visible Light‐Responsive Hydrogel to Study the Effect of Dynamic Tissue Stiffness on Cellular Mechanosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A visible light‐responsive polyacrylamide‐azobenzene hydrogel enables safe, reversible stiffness control for studying cell mechanobiology without harmful UV exposure. This approach reveals stem cells respond rapidly to mechanical changes, showing altered shape and protein distribution within one hour.

Reconfigurable Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles with Therapeutic RNAi Responses to Intracellular Disease Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many known diseases arise from dysregulated gene expression, and differentially expressed genes can serve as biomarkers to distinguish diseased cells from healthy tissues. In this study, reconfigurable nucleic acid nanoparticles (recNANPs) are introduced that can detect overexpressed cancer biomarkers and subsequently release RNAi inducers to silence ...

Human penile ossification: case report

open access: yesSão Paulo Medical Journal, 2007
CONTEXT: Ossification in the human penis is such a rare condition that only 34 histologically evident cases have previously been reported. Among several conditions that have been correlated with this problem the most frequent is Peyronie disease.
