The presence of os penis in man is very rare. To date only 11 cases have been published. A close study of these cases shows their extreme heterogeneity. We think that the os penis should be considered as a heterotopic bone structure similar to that found in the animal world. To confirm this we present our personal case study.

Thirty-five patients with carcinoma of the penis were treated at the teaching hospitals of West Virginia University Medical Center during the last 15 years. All cases were epidermoid carcinoma except for one case of melanoma. Factors adversely affecting prognosis were (1) the presence of clinically palpable lymph nodes, (2) age over 65 at diagnosis, (3)

ABSTRACTBetween 1954 and 1984, 102 cases of carcinoma of the penis were seen at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. Their mean age was 62.5 years. Nearly twice as many patients were referred in the last decade as in the first, and this observation may be linked to the reduction in numbers of neonatal circumcisions in the last forty years.
