Architectural Ultrasound Pennation Angle Measurement of Lumbar Multifidus Muscles: A Reliability Study. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Clin Med, 2022
The pennation angle has been shown to be a relevant parameter of muscle architecture. This parameter has not previously been measured in the lumbar multifidus musculature, and it is for this reason that it has been considered of great interest to establish an assessment protocol to generate new lines of research in the future.

A clustering-based method for estimating pennation angle from B-mode ultrasound images. [PDF]

open access: yesWearable Technol, 2023
Abstract B-mode ultrasound (US) is often used to noninvasively measure skeletal muscle architecture, which contains human intent information. Extracted features from B-mode images can help improve closed-loop human–robotic interaction control when using rehabilitation/assistive devices.

Changes in muscular pennation angle after crenotherapy. [PDF]

open access: yesMuscles Ligaments Tendons J, 2013
Muscular architecture involves the organization of fibres in the muscle and is one of the most important factors of muscular function. Studies have demonstrated an association with muscular architecture and contraction, with an increase of the pennation angle in muscles.

A new possible marker: can pennation angle defined by ultrasound predict the frailty? [PDF]

open access: yesAging Clin Exp Res
Abstract Background Frailty indicates older people who are vulnerable to stressors. The relation between ultrasonographic parameters of muscle and frailty among older people has yet to be investigated. Aims The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between ...

Impact of contraction intensity and ankle joint angle on calf muscle fascicle length and pennation angle during isometric and dynamic contractions. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep
AbstractDuring muscle contraction, not only are the fascicles shortening but also the pennation angle changes, which leads to a faster contraction of the muscle than of its fascicles. This phenomenon is called muscle gearing, and it has a direct influence on the force output of the muscle.

Pennation angle of vastus laterallis during isometric contractions performed at two knee angles [PDF]

open access: yesFisioterapia em Movimento, 2017
Abstract Introduction: The pennation angle (PA) of a muscle is not static value, but it adapts to the conditions imposed by the contraction intensity required. Objective: This study investigates the effect of knee angle (KA) and intensity of contraction (IC) on PA of vastus lateralis (VL).

Dynamic measurement of pennation angle of gastrocnemius muscles during contractions based on ultrasound imaging [PDF]

open access: yesBioMedical Engineering OnLine, 2012
Muscle fascicle pennation angle (PA) is an important parameter related to musculoskeletal functions, and ultrasound imaging has been widely used for measuring PA, but manually and frame by frame in most cases. We have earlier reported an automatic method to estimate aponeurosis orientation based on Gabor transform and Revoting Hough Transform (RVHT).In

Human gastrocnemius medialis Pennation Angle as a Function of Age: From Newborn to the Elderly.

open access: yesJournal of PHYSIOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY and Applied Human Science, 2001
The aim of the present study was to quantify changes in human skeletal muscle pennation angle (F theta) values during growth and adult life. The human gastrocnemius medialis muscle of 162 subjects (96 males and 66 females) in the age range 0-70 years was scanned with ultrasonography. The subjects were laying prone, at rest, with the ankle maintained at

Change in Gastrocnemius Pennation Angle According to Ankle Dorsiflexion among University Students

open access: yesJournal of the Korea Academia-Industrial cooperation Society, 2015

The Change of Pennation Angle of Medial Gastrocnemius on Different Heights of Heels

open access: yesIndian Journal of Science and Technology, 2016
Objectives This study aims to investigate the effect of pennation angle and surface Electromyography (sEMG) activity of medial gastrocnemius on different heights of high heels by using ultrasonography and sEMG. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Twenty eight healthy young females participate in this study.
