Herbage intake by cattle in kikuyugrass pastures under intermittent stocking method

open access: yesRevista Ciência Agronômica, 2019
Two complementary experiments were conducted to investigate the relationships between the canopy structure of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass) pastures created by intermittent stocking strategies and daily herbage intake by cattle.

Conservation status of three rare endemic Phaseolus bean (Leguminosae, Phaseoleae) species of Costa Rica

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2024, Issue 12, December 2024.
We aimed at an inventory of all populations of wild Phaseolus (bean) species in Costa Rica, in relation to future plant breeding. During the field work in 2003–2018, three new and rare bean species (i.e. P. albicarminus, P. angucianae and P. hygrophilus) were found in different montane forest habitats which originally occupy a small acreage.

A novel and effective technology for mitigating nitrous oxide emissions from land-applied manures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Land-applied manures produce nitrous oxide (N2O), a greenhouse gas (GHG). Land application can also result in ammonia (NH3) volatilisation, leading to indirect N2O emissions.

Application of fertilizer and insecticide can reduce Antonina graminis (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) and improve the quality of golf course putting greens

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 9, Page 4459-4469, September 2024.
Systemic insecticide reduced the Antonina graminis densities regardless of the N fertilizer dose. High nitrogen fertilizer application maintained acceptable turfgrass quality. The reduction in A. graminis densities improved with increasing nitrogen fertilizer dose.

Indigenous sward restoration by oversowing Microlaena stipoides into kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum) pasture

open access: yesNZGA: Research and Practice Series, 2010
Management plans for the grazed parklands of the Auckland volcanic cones call for revegetation to restore a more natural and historic vegetation cover. The native grass Microlaena stipoides has been identified as a relevant species, and a field experiment was undertaken to determine the best approach for establishing this species into existing pasture.
