Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum [L.] R. Br.)

CORRELATION AND PATH ANALYSIS IN PEARL MILLET (Pennisetum glaucum)
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1995Genotypic and phenotypic correlations were computed in a collection of twelve diverse male sterile lines, five restorers and the resulting sixty hybrids of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum(L.) R. Br.). Grain yield per plant showed high positive and significant correlation with plant height, ear length, ear girth and total number of tillers.

Genetic diversity in Pennisetum glaucum
Abstract: Genetic diversity is the total number of genetic characteristics in the genetic makeup of a species, it ranges widely from the number of species to differences within species and can be attributed to the span of survival for a species. It is distinguished from genetic variability, which describes the tendency of genetic characteristics to ...openaire +1 more source
Long-term storage of Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br. pollen
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1990Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] pollen has been successfully stored for 2,615 and 2,911 days at -18° and -73 °C, respectively, and continues to be viable. Viability of pollen stored at -73 °C appears to be little affected either by pollen storage moisture contents below 7.2% or by storage in glass vial or zip-lock plastic bag containers ...

Haploidy in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.]
1997Most of the current breeding in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] is aimed at maximum exploitation of hybrid vigour for both grain and forage yields. Pearl millet, a cross-pollinated crop, generally requires longer breeding periods in developing pure lines and hybrids compared with self-pollinated crops.

Breeding of Pearl Millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.)
2019Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) is a small-seeded cereal crop. Its protogynous nature renders it a highly cross-pollinated crop. Among cereal crops, pearl millet ranks sixth in importance based on world production, next to rice, wheat, maize, barley and sorghum; however, it is a more abundant source of nutrients than those cereal crops ...
