The C-4 pathway in Pennisetum purpureum

Planta, 1973
The anatomical structure of leaf tissue of P. purpureum, and the short term labelling pattern following exposure to (14)CO2 in the lighht, have been investigated. Both the arrangement of photosynthetic tissue in two layers around the vascular tissue, and the early labelling of malate and aspartate, characteristic of C-4 plants were observed.

C-4 Pathway in Pennisetum purpureum

Nature New Biology, 1972
HIGH rates of photosynthesis and low rates of photorespiration are found in several plant species in which the photosynthetic carbon reduction (PCR) cycle is augmented by a second carboxylation system, the C-4 pathway1,2. This pathway does not result in a net fixation or reduction of carbon, but seems to operate as a mechanism for concentrating CO2 at ...

GENETIC VARIABILITY IN NAPIER GRASS, Pennisetum purpureum

Madras Agricultural Journal, 1994
Studies were made to estimate the available genetic variability for 12 characters of forage value on a germplasm collection of 53 genotypes of napier grass. High level of variability was observed for all the characters excepting leaf length. Higher estimates of GCV and heritability showed that the characters were highly heritable with scope of ...

Herbage Yield Evaluation of Pennisetum purpureum Grass Genotypes

2023
This trial was conducted to assess the agronomic traits and forage dry matter yield of six Pennisetum purpureum grass genotypes in the great rift valley of Ethiopia. The experiment was carried out for four consecutive years in a randomized complete block design with three replications.
