Abstract The ongoing development of the Pentacam, from its origins in 2002 to the latest version (the Pentacam AXL Wave), is described. Today, the Pentacam AXL Wave combines Scheimpflug imaging, partial coherence interferometry, a Hartmann–Shack wavefront sensor and retroillumination.
