Pentacene Nanorails on Au(110) [PDF]

open access: possibleLangmuir, 2007
We studied the molecular orientation of pentacene monolayer phases on the Au(110) surface by means of near-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the carbon K-shell and scanning tunneling microscopy. The highest coverage phase, displaying a (6 x 8) symmetry, is found to be formed by two types of differently oriented molecules mimicking regular arrays of

Polymorphism in pentacene

Acta Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 2001
Pentacene, C(22)H(14), crystallizes in different morphologies characterized by their d(001)-spacings of 14.1, 14.5, 15.0 and 15.4 A. We have studied the crystal structure of the 14.1 and 14.5 A d-spacing morphologies grown by vapour transport and from solution. We find a close correspondence between the 14.1 A structure reported by Holmes, Kumaraswamy,

Stabilizing Pentacene By Cyclopentannulation

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2015
AbstractA new class of stabilized pentacene derivatives with externally fused five‐membered rings are prepared by means of a key palladium‐catalyzed cyclopentannulation step. The target compounds are synthesized by chemical manipulation of a partially saturated 6,13‐dibromopentacene precursor that can be fully aromatized in a final step through a DDQ ...

PENTACENE AT HIGH PRESSURE

High Pressure Research, 2003
We report a high-pressure optical study of pentacene by Raman, absorption, and reflectance spectroscopy. Two modifications, denoted C and H, were used as starting material. Raman spectra indicate a sluggish phase transition of the polymorph C to the H-phase with a very low onset pressure of 0.2 GPa. The H-phase remains stable up to at least 11 GPa. The

Ubiquitous Pentacene Monolayer on Metals Deposited onto Pentacene Films

Langmuir, 2007
Photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and UPS) was used to study the deposition of metal layers (Ag, Cu, and Au) onto pentacene films. Very low work functions were measured (PhiAg = 3.91 eV, PhiCu = 3.93 eV, and PhiAu = 4.3 eV) for all of the metals, in agreement with results from the literature.

Double Homologation Method for Substituted Soluble Pentacenes and Dimerization Behaviours of Pentacenes

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2009
AbstractDouble up: A zirconium‐mediated double homologation method was successfully applied for the synthesis of multi‐substituted pentacene derivatives from 1,2,4,5‐tetrakis(propargyl)benzenes. The bis(zirconacyclopentadiene) intermediates were also characterized.

Robust, Soluble Pentacene Ethers

Organic Letters, 2004
We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of alkoxy-substituted silylethynylated pentacene derivatives (R = CH(2)CH(2), CHCH, CH(2)). All three compounds are easily prepared, soluble in common organic solvents, and stable both as solids and in solution.

Pentacene and poly-pentacene as graphene nanoribbons

Solid State Communications, 2014
Abstract The development of electronic devices based on the unique electronic properties of graphene requires the large scale synthesis of graphene nanoribbons which remains a significant challenge. A possible way around this is to seek existing molecules that can be readily chemically synthesized and have the structure of graphene nano-ribbons.

Photoresponse of pentacene‐based transistors

physica status solidi (a), 2014
Organic thin film phototransistor (OPTs) devices in bottom‐gate/top‐contact configuration were fabricated and used as analytic system to study the electrical and optical properties of pentacene. The channel of the OTFT devices was illuminated by laser radiation of wavelength 670 nm and the effect of irradiation on the electrical responses of the ...

Synthesis, characterization of the pentacene and fabrication of pentacene field-effect transistors

Chinese Physics B, 2008
A comprehensive understanding of the organic semiconductor material pentacene is meaningful for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Thin films of pentacene are the most mobile molecular films known to date. This paper reported that the pentacene sample was successfully synthesized. The purity of pentacene is up to 95%.
