Development of Tolerance to Pentobarbital
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1970Abstract Tolerance to pentobarbital developed 4 hr. after the first injection and reached a peak at 17–22 hr., after which it decreased to nonsignificant levels by 48 hr. The duration and frequency of administration of pentobarbital affected the degree of development of tolerance to pentobarbital.

Stability of pentobarbital in soil
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B, 2017Intravenous injection of barbiturates, particularly pentobarbital (5-ethyl-5-pentan-2-yl-1,3-diazinane-2,4,5-trione), is a widely used method to euthanize large animals such as horses. However, one concern with this method is the fate of pentobarbital after the disposal of the carcass.
