Pentobarbital in tobacco

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 2006
The spectrometric analysis of extracts from tobacco and tobacco smoke revealed the presence of pentobarbital in the analyzed substances. Tobacco samples and tobacco smoke were extracted with chloroform, determinations were performed with the Perkin-Elmer Autosystem XL system, on a Turbo Mass spectrometer.

Effects of pentobarbital and cocaine in rats expecting pentobarbital

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1982
Rats received extensive exposure to pentobarbital in a distinctive environment, and were subsequently tested for tolerance to the sedative effects of pentobarbital either in the distinctive environment or in an environment previously associated only with saline.

Stability of pentobarbital in soil

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B, 2017
Intravenous injection of barbiturates, particularly pentobarbital (5-ethyl-5-pentan-2-yl-1,3-diazinane-2,4,5-trione), is a widely used method to euthanize large animals such as horses. However, one concern with this method is the fate of pentobarbital after the disposal of the carcass.

Development of Tolerance to Pentobarbital

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1970
Abstract Tolerance to pentobarbital developed 4 hr. after the first injection and reached a peak at 17–22 hr., after which it decreased to nonsignificant levels by 48 hr. The duration and frequency of administration of pentobarbital affected the degree of development of tolerance to pentobarbital.

Comparison of pentobarbital alone and pentobarbital in combination with lidocaine for euthanasia of dogs

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1993
Summary Pentobarbital alone, pentobarbital plus 1% lidocaine solution, pentobarbital plus 2% lidocaine solution, and pentobarbital plus 3% lidocaine solution were each used to euthanatize 6 dogs. For each dog, time between the beginning of injection of the euthanasia solution and each of the following events was recorded: collapse, onset of apnea, flat-

Acceleration of pentobarbital metabolism in tolerant mice induced by pentobarbital pellet implantation

Life Sciences, 1977
Abstract The time course of inductions of N-demethylation and pentobarbital hydroxylation of hepatic drug metabolizing system in continuous pentobarbital administration by pentobarbital pellet implantation in the mouse is presented. The results also demonstrate that hepatic microsomal drug-metabolizing enzymes in the mouse could be induced much ...

Effect of cannabis on pentobarbital-induced sleeping time and pentobarbital metabolism in the rat

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1974
Abstract The effects of two cannabis extracts with different cannabinoid compositions, as well of as pure Δ 1 -tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol (CBN) and cannabidiol (CBD), on pentobarbital metabolism were studied in the rat. Extract I, with high proportions of CBN and CBD relative to THC, when given by gavage 21·5, 40 or 63 hr before ...

Induction of Theophylline Metabolism by Pentobarbital

Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1989
Theophylline concentrations in plasma and urine were determined during maintenance treatment in nine healthy volunteers during one dosage interval before and after 10 days of simultaneous treatment with pentobarbital (100 mg each night). During the pentobarbital period, total plasma clearance of theophylline increased by 40% (range -4-79%), whereas ...

Pentobarbital Sodium: Variation in Toxicity [PDF]

open access: possibleScience, 1966
The survival rate of groups of female mice given a standard dose of pentobarbital sodium varied during a 12-hour period. When survival rate was plotted against time, a curve with several inflections was described.

THE DURATIONS OF ACTION OF THIOPENTAL AND PENTOBARBITAL

Survey of Anesthesiology, 1960
Experiments in rats have shown that after rapid intravenous injection of a single dose of thiopental, the brain equilibrates immediately with a very high plasma level, which then falls rapidly as the drug distributes into total body water and tissue binding sites, including fat. Consequently, the brain thiopental falls rapidly from an anesthetic to a
