Interaction of cannabinoids with pentobarbital in rats
Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1974The effect of cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ8-THC), and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) on the in vivo metabolism of [14C]pentobarbital (14C-P) was investigated in rats. The cannabinoids were administered ip (20 mg/kg) 30 min prior to either oral or iv treatment with 14C-P.

Pentobarbital sodium anesthesia in the dog
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1965Studies have been done in the dog to determine some of the circulatory effects of anesthetic amounts of pentobarbital sodium. The results indicate that a) except for the initial transient hypotension that occurs on injection of the anesthetic, pentobarbital sodium has little influence on the mean arterial blood pressure of the normotensive dog; b ...

Pentobarbital actions on a leech neurone
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1977Abstract 1. Pentobarbital and secobarbital caused changes in resting properties of leech neurones attributable to reduced potassium conductance, but several other barbiturates had no effect. 2. All barbiturates tested prolonged the action potentials of the same cells. 3. For pentobarbital both actions were much more evident at pH 6.8 than at 8.8.

Biological Activity of Pentobarbital Metabolites
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1973Abstract The (1′ S ,3′ R )-, (1′ S ,3′ S )-, (1′ R ,3′ S )-, and (1′ R ,3′ S )-5-ethyl-5-(3′-hydroxy-1′-methylbutyl)barbituric acid metabolites of pentobarbital are relatively inactive and, therefore, cannot account for the differences in potency found between R (+)- and S (–)-pentobarbital.

Oral pentobarbital intoxication in a bitch
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1986Pentobarbital intoxication in a 5-year-old female Samoyed was confirmed by the finding of a high concentration of the drug in serum. The dog apparently had consumed one of her pups, which had been euthanatized the day before with a 26% sodium pentobarbital solution. She was admitted in a condition consistent with light general anesthesia.

Placental Transfer of Pentobarbital in the Rat
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1970The placental transfer of pentobarbital and/or metabolites was determined in rats using 14C-labeled pentobarbital. The level of pentobarbital and/or metabolites in fetal blood was greatly influenced by the circulating level of pentobarbital and/or metabolites in the mother.

Rats with conditioned aversions to NaCl water were exposed to either an injection of pentobarbital (Pent) followed 30 min later by an injection of lithium chloride (LiCl) on four separate occasions or to injections of LiCl alone, Pent alone, or LiCl followed by Pent. These injections were followed by pairings of NaCl consumption with injections of Pent.
