Upgrading the Hemicellulosic Fraction of Biomass into Biofuel Valorisation de la fraction hémicellulosique de la biomasse en biocarburants

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2013
Hemicelluloses are polymers composed mainly of C5 sugars (pentosans) . They constitute a significant part of lignocellulosic biomass (LCB), as they can be up to 30% of the total mass.

Single‐Injection Multi‐Omics Analysis by Direct Infusion Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput direct infusion mass spectrometry platform, enabled by gas‐phase ion mobility separation, supports single‐injection analysis of peptides, polar metabolites, and lipids. Coupled with custom software, it identified ∽1,300 proteins and ∽600 metabolites in ∽4.3 minutes per sample, and demonstrated broad utility in macrophage polarization ...

Synthesis of a novel polyester building block from pentoses by tin-containing silicates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
C5-Sugars form a new bio-monomer (trans-2,5-dihydroxy-3-pentenoic acid methyl ester), which can undergo enzymatic copolymerization with E6-HH to form multifunctional polymers.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Chemical Metabolomics: Chemical Biology Tools for Advanced Metabolism Investigations

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The human metabolism has been investigated for several millennia. The metabolome is known for a high complexity due to a large number of different metabolites that are present at different concentrations. Metabolomics has been developed as a field to investigate the entire human metabolome and to elucidate disease development mechanisms.

Metabolome analysis-based design and engineering of a metabolic pathway in Corynebacterium glutamicum to match rates of simultaneous utilization of d-glucose and l-arabinose

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2018
Background l-Arabinose is the second most abundant component of hemicellulose in lignocellulosic biomass, next to d-xylose. However, few microorganisms are capable of utilizing pentoses, and catabolic genes and operons enabling bacterial utilization of ...

Metabolic reprogramming identifies the most aggressive lesions at early phases of hepatic carcinogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Metabolic changes are associated with cancer, but whether they are just bystander effects of deregulated oncogenic signaling pathways or characterize early phases of tumorigenesis remains unclear.
