RNA‐Guided Engineering of the Chloroplast Genome Enabled by Plastid‐Expressed Guide RNAs
ABSTRACT Our goal is to develop RNA‐guided engineering of the chloroplast genome using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. We designed chloroplast minigenes to obtain properly sized single guide RNAs (sgRNAs) in tobacco chloroplasts. The sgRNA 5′ end is defined by transcription from an rRNA operon promoter, and its 3′ end by processing a downstream tRNA (trnG) or ...

Metabolic Rewiring of the Shikimate Pathway Enables Rose‐Scented Rice
ABSTRACT Rice fragrance is a key determinant of grain quality, yet the aroma profile of cultivated rice is highly uniform and largely dominated by the popcorn‐like compound 2‐acetyl‐1‐pyrroline. Here we expanded the aromatic repertoire of rice by engineering a rose‐like fragrance through reconstruction of the phenylalanine‐derived 2‐phenylethanol (2‐PE)

Novel Amino Acid Changes Increase Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase Output in planta
ABSTRACT Characterization of previously reported Arabidopsis mutants with increased aluminum (Al) resistance (alr) resulting from greater release of Al‐chelating malate identified three unique amino acid substitutions that each impacts PHOSPHOENOLPYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE 1, a key anaplerotic carbon fixation enzyme.

CO2 Fertilisation of Growth in Wild C4 Grasses may be Amplified by Upregulated Photosynthesis
ABSTRACT Rising atmospheric CO2 is expected to have limited direct effects on C4 photosynthesis because the carbon‐concentrating mechanism maintains near‐saturating CO2 at Rubisco. Consequently, growth responses of C4 plants to elevated CO2 (eCO2) are generally attributed to indirect improvements in plant water relations.

Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Cytosolic NADPH in Living Arabidopsis thaliana
ABSTRACT In plants, an adequate supply of Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) in the cytosol is crucial for maintaining a variety of biosynthetic and antioxidant reactions. Cytosolic NADPH is mainly generated via four enzymatic pathways: NADP‐dependent malic dehydrogenase (NADP‐ME), cytosolic oxidative pentose phosphate pathway (cOPPP),
