Long‐term outcomes of endoscopic ultrasound‐guided hepaticogastrostomy in patients with malignant biliary obstruction

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 12, Issue 8, Page 1044-1055, October 2024.
Hepaticogastrostomy drainage via endoscopic ultrasound (EUS‐HGS) is a newer technique for biliary decompression in cases of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) failure for malignant biliary obstruction (MBO). EUS‐HGS has shown high technical and clinical success with acceptable risk in short‐term outcomes.

A Novel Sample-efficient Deep Reinforcement Learning with Episodic Policy Transfer for PID-Based Control in Cardiac Catheterization Robots [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Robotic catheterization is typically used for percutaneous coronary intervention procedures nowadays and it involves steering flexible endovascular tools to open up occlusion in the coronaries. In this study, a sample-efficient deep reinforcement learning with episodic policy transfer is, for the first time, used for motion control during robotic ...

Non-Surgical Biliary Drainage on Biliary Obstruction Due to Malignancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Surgery is still the golden standard of curative therapy for Malignant biliary obstruction, but only 10- 20% of cases considered resectable. Therefore, palliative therapy to relieve pain, cholestasis, and biliary obstruction, is the main treatment for ...

Percutaneous renal puncture: requirements and preliminary results [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the First International Conference Surgetica'2002: Computer-Aided Medical Interventions: tools and applications Sauramps Medical Editors (Ed.) (2002) 303-309, 2006
This paper introduces the principles of computer assisted percutaneous renal puncture, that would provide the surgeon with an accurate pre-operative 3D planning on CT images and, after a rigid registration with space-localized echographic data, would help him to perform the puncture through an intuitive 2D/3D interface.

Deep Reinforcement Learning in Surgical Robotics: Enhancing the Automation Level [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Surgical robotics is a rapidly evolving field that is transforming the landscape of surgeries. Surgical robots have been shown to enhance precision, minimize invasiveness, and alleviate surgeon fatigue. One promising area of research in surgical robotics is the use of reinforcement learning to enhance the automation level.

Results of Radical Surgical Treatment of Cholangiocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Radical operations of cholangiocarcinomas are connected with the great number of post-operative complications, and lethality reaches 15-30 %. The most debatable questions remain the choice of the operation type depending on localization and spreading of ...

Minimal invasive treatment of biliary leak after laparoscopic cholecystectomy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gastrointestinal Intervention, 2019
The laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become one of the most common operations for treatment of symptomatic gallbladder disease. However significant postoperative biliary duct injuries can occur, leading to biliary leaks.

An open-source tool for automated planning of overlapping ablation zones for percutaneous renal tumor treatment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Percutaneous thermal ablation is a minimally-invasive treatment option for renal cancer. To treat larger tumours, multiple overlapping ablations zones are required. Arrangements with a low number of ablation zones but coverage of the whole tumour volume are challenging to find for physicians.
