Degree theory for 4‐dimensional asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract We develop a new degree theory for 4‐dimensional, asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons. Our theory implies the existence of gradient expanding solitons that are asymptotic to any given cone over S3$S^3$ with non‐negative scalar curvature. We also obtain a similar existence result for cones whose link is diffeomorphic to S3/Γ$S^3/\

Measuring educational efficiency at student level with parametric stochastic distance functions: An application to Spanish PISA results [PDF]

open access: yes
This study explicitly considers that education is a multi-input multi-output production process subject to inefficient behaviors that can be identified at student level.

Optimal transport and Perelman’s reduced volume [PDF]

open access: yesCalculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations, 2009
We show that a certain entropy-like function is convex, under an optimal transport problem that is adapted to Ricci flow. We use this to reprove the monotonicity of Perelman's reduced volume.

Causal Effects of Hydrophilic Bile Acids on Carfilzomib‐Related Cardiovascular Events in Multiple Myeloma: A Mendelian Randomization Study

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Carfilzomib is highly effective in the treatment of multiple myeloma, but it has been associated with cardiovascular adverse events that impact patient outcomes. Our prior global metabolomic analyses indicated an association between hydrophilic bile acids and carfilzomib‐cardiotoxicity risk, although a causal relationship remained to be determined ...

Hilbert-Perelman’s functional and Lagrange multipliers [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2012
Summary: We use the Hilbert-Perelman functional over a suitable subspace of its domain and rederive the extremal Kähler flow equation by using the ensuing Lagrange multipliers. We modify the said functional appropriately to present this pseudo-differential equation as a gradient flow and, as a consequence, to show that some of Perelman's monotonicity ...

Metabolic abnormalities and reprogramming in cats with naturally occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1256-1270, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims The heart is a metabolic organ rich in mitochondria. The failing heart reprograms to utilize different energy substrates, which increase its oxygen consumption. These adaptive changes contribute to increased oxidative stress.

Power Relations in the Preparation of the Nondiscrimination Act: The Controversial Issue of Supervising Discrimination in Working Life

open access: yesEuropean Policy Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the context of Europeanisation and neo‐corporatism, we examine the lengthy process of revising the Nondiscrimination Act in Finland, spanning from 2007 to 2023. The focus is on the mandate of the Nondiscrimination Ombudsman in the workplace and on explaining the sudden policy change of strengthening it after a prolonged standstill.
