The L108I polymorphism in mouse prion protein drives spontaneous disease and enhances transmission of atypical and classical prion strains

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 4, July 2026.
A single amino acid change (L108I) combined with PrP overexpression drives spontaneous atypical prion formation in mice, enabling also efficient propagation of diverse prion strains. This model allows studying how spontaneous prion diseases arise and provides powerful tools for investigating strain emergence, transmission barriers, and mechanisms ...

Replication of Relevant SNPs Associated with Cardiovascular Disease Susceptibility Obtained from GWAs in a Case‐Control Study in a Canarian Population

open access: yesDisease Markers, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 231-239, 2012., 2012
Recent genome‐wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) association studies (GWAS) have identified a number of SNPs that were significantly associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI). We tested for replication of the previously described association with CAD in our case‐control datasets of SNPs variants located at 1p13.

Quantitative Analysis of Locus Coeruleus Neurons and Thalamic Noradrenergic Axons in a Progressive 1‐Methyl‐4‐phenyl‐1,2,3,6‐tetrahydropyridine Monkey Model of Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, Volume 41, Issue 5, Page 1197-1208, May 2026.
Abstract Background Parkinson's disease is mainly characterized by dopaminergic neurodegeneration in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and α‐synuclein accumulation. The locus coeruleus (LC) is also affected in Parkinson's disease and linked to some nonmotor symptoms, but the extent and timing of its degeneration remain unclear.

CellSs: Scheduling Techniques to Better Exploit Memory Hierarchy

open access: yesScientific Programming, Volume 17, Issue 1-2, Page 77-95, 2009., 2009
Cell Superscalar′s (CellSs) main goal is to provide a simple, flexible and easy programming approach for the Cell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.) that automatically exploits the inherent concurrency of the applications at a task level. The CellSs environment is based on a source‐to‐source compiler that translates annotated C or Fortran code and a runtime ...

Review: “The Disappointment Dilemma: Short‐ and Long‐Term Learning From Negative Outcomes”

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 9, May 2026.
The habenula routes negative‐outcome signals to VTA, RMTg, and IPN to shape aversive learning and motivation. The lateral habenula encodes acute negative prediction errors to rapidly adapt behavior to threat, fear, and avoidance. The medial habenula integrates repeated stress, drug, and aversive experiences into long‐term negative mood and expectations.

The Association Between Caregiver Psychosocial Factors and Depressive Symptoms in People With Dementia: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Nursing, Volume 82, Issue 4, Page 3906-3942, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To identify and evaluate the magnitude of the association between caregiver psychosocial factors and depressive symptoms among people with dementia. Design Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods A systematic review with meta‐analysis used a random‐effects model to estimate the effect size.

Comprehensive profiling of Aβ40 and Aβ42 fibril‐interacting proteins reveals PRKCG as a drug‐targetable regulator of amyloidogenesis in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Proteins interacting with amyloid beta (Aβ) fibrils could be key to plaque formation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and represent potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Previous proteomic studies using microdissected plaques might have captured non‐specific components rather than true Aβ interactors.

Discrepancies in assessing intellectual disability levels in adults with Down syndrome: Implications for dementia diagnosis

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Cut‐offs derived from baseline cognitive assessments, stratified by intellectual disability (ID) level, have been proposed to diagnose symptomatic Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Down syndrome (DS). However, discrepancies in ID classification risk misclassification when applying cut‐offs across sites.
