Are perfluorooctane sulfonate alternatives safer? New insights from a birth cohort study
Background: Experimental studies show that chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonic acids (Cl-PFESA 6:2 and 8:2), one of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used as perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) alternatives, are reproductive toxicants in vivo and in ...

The emergence of persistent organic pollutants in the environment: the occurrence and treatment of perfluorinated compounds [PDF]
Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) are two perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) used to produce everyday goods, including clothing, carpets, textiles, upholstery, paper, packaging and cleaning products.

Neonatal death of mice treated with perfluorooctane sulfonate
Pregnant mice exposure to perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) causes neonatal death. Ten pregnant ICR mice per group were given 1, 10 or 20 mg/kg PFOS daily by gavage from gestational day (GD) 0 to the end of the study. Five dams per group were sacrificed on GD 18 for prenatal evaluation, the others were left to give birth.

Bottled Water and the Social Sciences: A Review and Agenda for Future Research
ABSTRACT Social sciences approach the steady rise of bottled water consumption at the beginning of the 21st century from four analytical vantage points: political economy, semiotics and lifestyle, political ecology, and materiality‐centered. Each analytic has crucial methodological and conceptual contributions to make, as well as zones of potential ...

A challenge in the risk assessment of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is the large interspecies differences in its toxicokinetics that results in substantial uncertainty in the dosimetry and toxicity extrapolation from animals to humans. To address this

Estimation of PFOS emission from domestic sources in the eastern coastal region of China
Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and related chemicals (collectively “PFOS equivalents”) have been released to the environment through widespread consumer use and disposal of PFOS-containing products like carpet, leather, textiles, paper, food containers,

Esterification Prevents Induction of the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition by N-Acetyl Perfluorooctane Sulfonamides [PDF]
N-Alkyl perfluorooctane sulfonamides have been widely used as surfactants on fabrics and papers, fire retardants, and anticorrosion agents, among many other commercial applications.

A systematic study of a series of porous organic cages with perfluorinated alkyl side‐chains of different lengths is presented. The structure‐property relationship of the various cages on gas sorption of highly potent greenhouse gases, such as perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) is investigated.
