The Heisenberg-RIXS instrument at the European XFEL. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Synchrotron Radiat
The aim of this work is to present Heisenberg RIXS at the European XFEL, the first high‐resolution soft X‐ray instrument enabling time‐resolved resonant inelastic X‐ray scattering close to the transform limit from solid and liquid‐jet samples. The optical design, mechanical layout and performance are described in detail and discussed in a broader ...

Complementary Tumor Diagnosis by Single Cell–Based Cytogenetics Using Multi‐marker Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (mFISH)

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 3, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Multi‐color (or multi‐marker) fluorescence in situ hybridization (mFISH) is a well‐established, valuable, complementary tool for prenatal and pathological (tumor) diagnosis. A variety of chromosomal abnormalities, such as partial or total chromosomal gains, losses, inversions, or translocations, which are considered to cause genetic syndromes,

Looking Beyond Jerusalem: A Fifteenth‐Century Exercise in Image Comparison

open access: yesArt History, Volume 46, Issue 4, Page 640-666, September 2023., 2023
Critical image comparison is a widespread art‐historical practice. This essay explores why a Brabantine artist encouraged viewers to exercise it in the late fifteenth century. At the time, northern European artists tested out how images could be means of transcending the visible world while simultaneously showcasing their very constructedness. The self‐

Optical genome mapping for detection of chromosomal aberrations in prenatal diagnosis

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 102, Issue 8, Page 1053-1062, August 2023., 2023
Optical genome mapping reached 97.8% concordant clinical diagnosis with standard‐of‐care methods for all chromosomal aberrations by a singular testing platform, suggesting that optical genome mapping has the potential to become a promising cytogenetic tool for prenatal diagnosis.

Leaf Scorching following Foliar Fertilization of Wheat with Urea or Urea–Ammonium Nitrate Is Caused by Ammonium Toxicity

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Foliar fertilization is a potential tool to increase the use-efficiency of nitrogen (N) fertilizers. However, whilst leaf scorching has frequently been reported, the underlying physiological processes are not clear.

Association between low fetal fraction in cell‐free DNA screening and fetal chromosomal aberrations: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 838-853, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Objective To perform a systematic review and meta‐analysis of the available literature on low fetal fraction (LFF) in cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) screening and the risk of fetal chromosomal aberrations. Method We searched articles published between January 2010 and May 2021 in PubMed and EMBASE databases.

Photon‐shot‐noise‐limited transient absorption soft X‐ray spectroscopy at the European XFEL

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 284-300, March 2023., 2023
A beam‐splitting off‐axis zone plate setup to measure transient X‐ray absorption spectroscopy is presented, as implemented at the Spectroscopy and Coherent Scattering instrument at the European X‐ray Free‐Electron Laser.Femtosecond transient soft X‐ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is a very promising technique that can be employed at X‐ray free ...

Applying minimally invasive biomarkers of chronic stress across complex ecological contexts

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 34, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Abstract Chronic stress is both theoretically and methodologically challenging to operationalize through biomarkers. Yet minimally invasive, field‐friendly biomarkers of chronic stress are valuable in research linking biology and culture, seeking to understand differential patterns of human development across ecological contexts, and exploring the ...
