How do distinct facets of tree diversity and community assembly respond to environmental variables in the subtropical Atlantic Forest?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2023., 2023
In this study, we measure different aspects of biodiversity in Subtropical Brazilian Atlantic Forest communities, taking into account the overlap between functional and phylogenetic structures. Our study shows that species richness, functional diversity, and phylogenetic diversity respond differently to environmental gradients, particularly when ...

Measuring food systems sustainability in heterogenous countries: The Brazilian multidimensional index updated version applicability

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 31, Issue 1, Page 91-107, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Countries with large territories marked by heterogeneity lack tools to monitor their distinct food systems sustainability. The multidimensional index for sustainable food systems (MISFS) was designed to measure food system sustainability locally, using the Brazilian territory.

Relevance of the Isoflavone Absorption and Testicular Function: A Systematic Review of Preclinical Evidence

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Isoflavone is a phytoestrogen found in different types of food that can act as endocrine disrupters leading to testicular dysfunction. Currently, fragmented data on the action of this compound in the testicles make it difficult to assess its effects to define a safe dose.

Lack of Compliance in Gillnet Fisheries Regulations Increases Risk to a Vulnerable Species

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article presents an analysis of regulatory compliance in a Brazilian gillnet fishery, based on Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) tracking data. Satellite transmissions records, interpreted as proxies for gillnet haulings events, were analyzed and classified using a neural network to assess the level of compliance of the gillnet fleet.

Post‐1990s Warming of Circumpolar Deep Water Off West Antarctica and Its Drivers

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Ice loss off East Antarctica has been linked to the warming of Circumpolar Deep Water (CDW) associated with a poleward shift of the southern boundary of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). In West Antarctica, where the fastest ice‐shelf melting occurs, it has been proposed that off‐shelf CDW warming could be additionally driven by ...
