Innate Lymphoid Cells Play a Pathogenic Role in Pericarditis

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: We find that cardiac group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) are essential for the development of IL-33-induced eosinophilic pericarditis. We show a pathogenic role for ILC2s in cardiac inflammation, in which ILC2s activated by IL-33 drive the ...

Use of Anakinra in steroid dependent recurrent pericarditis: a case report and review of literature

open access: yesJournal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives, 2021
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and colchicine are the cornerstone treatment for recurrent pericarditis. Corticosteroids are frequently used in patients with recurrent episodes of pericarditis.

Problems of immunopathology and prospects for pharmacotherapy of idiopathic recurrent pericarditis: Using an interleukin 1 inhibitor (Anakinra)

open access: yesНаучно-практическая ревматология, 2023
Pericarditis, a clinical syndrome characterized by inflammation and thickening of the pericardium, is one of the most common forms of inflammatory diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Reports of myocarditis and pericarditis following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination: a systematic review of spontaneously reported data from the UK, Europe and the USA and of the scientific literature

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2022
Objectives To combine spontaneously reported data from multiple countries to estimate reporting rate, and better understand risk factors for myocarditis and pericarditis following COVID-19 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines.

Proton beam therapy causing pericarditis – a rare case of radiation induced cardiotoxicity

open access: yesCardio-Oncology, 2022
Acute pericarditis is caused by the inflammation of the pericardium which can result in an effusion around the heart. Proton beam therapy causing radiation-induced pericarditis is not a well-known cause of pericarditis.

Melioidosis Pericarditis Mimicking Tuberculous Pericarditis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2010
Cases of melioidosis (N = 2) and tuberculous pericarditis (N = 33) during 1996-2006 were reviewed. Clinical presentations were similar, but pericardial pathological findings were not. Nine of 12 patients with melioidosis required pericardectomy.

Incidence of Myocarditis/Pericarditis Following mRNA COVID-19 Vaccination Among Children and Younger Adults in the United States

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine, 2022
Background: Vaccine safety monitoring systems worldwide have reported cases of myocarditis/pericarditis after mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna), especially among younger male persons 0 to 7 days after they received dose 2 (1, 2).

Effect of prednisolone on inflammatory markers in pericardial tuberculosis: A pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Pericardial disorders are a common cause of heart disease, and the most common cause of pericarditis in developing countries is tuberculous (TB) pericarditis.

Case of tuberculous pericarditis presenting as a giant pericardial adhesion and masquerading as a pericardial tumour

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Radiology, 2018
Chronic pericarditis characterised by adhesions between the parietal and visceral pericardium is called adhesive pericarditis. In South Africa, tuberculosis is the most common cause of chronic pericarditis.
