Innate Lymphoid Cells Play a Pathogenic Role in Pericarditis

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: We find that cardiac group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) are essential for the development of IL-33-induced eosinophilic pericarditis. We show a pathogenic role for ILC2s in cardiac inflammation, in which ILC2s activated by IL-33 drive the ...

Case of tuberculous pericarditis presenting as a giant pericardial adhesion and masquerading as a pericardial tumour

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Radiology, 2018
Chronic pericarditis characterised by adhesions between the parietal and visceral pericardium is called adhesive pericarditis. In South Africa, tuberculosis is the most common cause of chronic pericarditis.

Melioidosis Pericarditis Mimicking Tuberculous Pericarditis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2010
Cases of melioidosis (N = 2) and tuberculous pericarditis (N = 33) during 1996-2006 were reviewed. Clinical presentations were similar, but pericardial pathological findings were not. Nine of 12 patients with melioidosis required pericardectomy.

Shortening of the PR interval in pericarditis after coronary bypass surgery [PDF]

open access: yesКлиническая практика, 2022
Background: Pericarditis, following pericardiotomy, is a well-known complication of cardiac surgery. The diagnosis of postpericardiotomy pericarditis (PP) is based on the electrocardiography (ECG) changes the ST segment elevation in combination with a ...

Pericarditis in Lupus [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2019
Pericarditis is a common cardiac manifestation in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Serositis is recognized in the ACR, SLICC, and EULAR/ACR classification criteria. We reviewed the prior research regarding the epidemiology, risk factors, presentation, and treatment of pericarditis in SLE.

Case report: Epstein–Barr virus and constrictive pericarditis—An unusual combination

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2023
Constrictive pericarditis is a chronic inflammatory process that can lead to heart failure if not diagnosed and treated correctly. Although Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)–related pericarditis is a very rare condition, it should still be considered for a ...

Pericardial effusion caused by viral pericarditis in a patient receiving peritoneal dialysis

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy, 2022
Background Acute pericarditis causes acute inflammation of the pericardium. Although most cases of pericarditis are idiopathic with no identifiable cause, its etiology can be infectious, such as viral, bacterial, mycotic, and tuberculous infections, or ...
