Antioxidant and Anticancer Activity of Pericarp Water Extracts of Mediterranean Ancient Chestnut Accessions

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The residue of chestnut processing generates a large amount of waste material, a resource not adequately exploited. The antioxidant and antitumoral properties of cold and hot water extracts from discarded pericarp of four chestnut Sardinian accessions ...

Microstructural changes in the maize kernel pericarp during cooking stage in nixtamalization process

open access: yes, 2010
The microstructural changes in the maize pericarp during the critical lime-cooking step of a traditional nixtamalization process are reported. Scanning Electron Microscopy at low vacuum (SEM-LV) images and Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS) were used ...

HY5 Positively Regulates Autophagy to Mediate Red Light‐Induced Tomato Fruit Ripening

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5570-5572, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Red light accelerates tomato fruit ripening, but the molecular link between light signalling and autophagy remains unclear. Here, we show that red light promotes fruit coloration by activating autophagy in tomato pericarp. This response largely depends on the transcription factor HY5, which positively regulates this process by directly ...

A novel CsRNF‐CsHSF24‐CsF3′5′H2 module regulates epigallocatechin gallate biosynthesis in Camellia sinensis

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 128, Issue 1, October 2026.
Significance Statement While the biosynthetic pathway of tea catechins is well established, how post‐translational modifications govern this process has remained elusive. This study uncovers a regulatory module in which the E3 ubiquitin ligase CsRNF targets the transcription factor CsHSF24 for degradation, thereby controlling expression of the key ...

Pericarp structure of the Caryopteris group (Lamiaceae subfam. Ajugoideae)

open access: yes, 2009
Pericarp and seed structure was investigated in 13 out of the 16 species of the old Caryopteris s.lat. and in a few species of  the related Rubiteucris, Amethystea, Trichostema and Ajuga.

CsGATA5‐CsTRYS/CsTDC2 module coordinates tryptophan‐mediated wound healing in postharvest citrus fruit

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 128, Issue 1, October 2026.
SUMMARY The wound healing process in postharvest citrus fruit represents a crucial physiological mechanism that effectively resists external stress and minimizes quality deterioration. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanisms involved in wound healing by GATA transcription factors in citrus remain largely unexplored.

Anatomical study on the developing pericarp of selected Rosa species (Rosaceae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Results of anatomical studies on the developing pericarp of selected wild roses are presented. Using SEM and CLSM, the changes in the pericarp structure of 5 species have been observed during its formation, from the flowering stage to fully ripe achenes.
